I'm contemplating a Santa Monica trip this winter. I saw that the Metro station in Santa Monica is now operational so I thought I could avoid renting a car and just take the train from LAX to Santa Monica. Except that the train doesn't actually reach LAX. It gets sorta close but then just doesn't get there. I read that Metro and the airport authority are working on a fix but why LA? Why?

Somewhere inbetween NIMBY's and LA's love of cars, a direct line to LAX was put on the backburner. Further, the flyaway bus from Santa Monica -> LAX was cancelled this week.

Now having said that, a few notes:

1) the Expo line goes from Santa Monica -> Downtown where you can connect to all the other stuff. We're still waiting for a few cars actually, so at the moment the Expo line is > 100% capacity very often. If you visit later (ie non tourist season), this might not be a big deal.

2) With the advent of Uber/Uber Pool, it is OUTRAGEOUSLY cheap to get from LAX -> Santa Monica. Probably $15 on UberX.

Want to buy a braided USB 3.x micro-USB-B cable... Couldn't find any. It looks like USB 3.x was a flyover technology between USB 2.x and USB-C. I mostly skipped the 3.x generation except for my external HDD.

Edit: Me bitching over inconsequential bullshit.

Reading more stories about Samsung Note 7 phones melting down... Not surprised with rapid chargers, now with even higher amperage and/or voltage boosting. Phones with ~3.5 Ah batteries with 2 amp and up chargers?

The city is the entirety of Duval County and yes some areas are still undeveloped. The city is undergoing a large growth streak on the outer portions of the county. The highway network is being revised in all quadrants and when finished should reduce the gridlock that we experience every work day.

Was going to see The Neverending Story in theaters today on my day off. Got called in to fill in for someone who called out sick at the last possible moment. :(

Can't seem to get back into the work thing after my four day weekend. The weather was basically perfect. I hope every single hurricane gives us the weather we had from Fri-Mon. In similar news, I should have been a meteorologist.

Uh oh, I did the risky. Bought a book from a no-feedback, new third-party seller. Dude is selling some textbooks and a computer. Sounds like the contents of a stolen backpack...

...Until people start moving even further out and then clog up the new capacity.

Ha, I got 4 days of awesome because Hermine was a joke. I'll get 3 days this weekend because my city has this "event" that will take up all of my parking so Friday will be gaming on the new box.

Download suggestions, 2014 games and before. TIA.

They already have and the 5 inbound lanes of I-10 are jam packed each work day morning as are the outbound lanes on all interstates leaving at the end of the day. In the 10 years that I've been here they've made enormous progress with the interstates and loops around the city but it's a work in progress that won't be finished anytime soon. At least they're doing away with the combo entrance/exit ramps that are super dangerous.

As an old Diablo, Diablo: Hellfire, Diablo 2 fan .... I've come to like Path of Exile. Haven't been on in a week or two, but it's so similar. It's constantly being updated too. There's a thread in the Software forum about it, and there's an ATOT guild ... which is cool. Any questions are quickly answered there. There's SO much to learn tho, it won't come overnight.

Someone brought in Tim Hortons donuts to work. I couldn't bring myself to eat one.

That is most definitely a third world problem.

Mine is I am pissed about not being able to order 26650 Li-Ion battery from China (cheaper) cuz of the strict restrictions. Meanwhile each passenger plane is probably carrying 100kg of Li-Ion battery just from people's phone and tablets.

There were billions of cells being flown in a year and only 26 injuries...

Ordered 1 backpack last week and yesterday the same thing went down $12 cheaper from the same vendor. Trying to get Amazon to refund the difference.

Looks like I got all of the carpenter ants in the maple tree in the front yard using a combination of these 2 ant baits.

protein bait - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FA64MY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

sugar bait - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003EAQX18/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now I just have to wait another couple of weeks to make sure the job is really done and then I can fill the hole with expanding foam, paint with pruning spray and hopefully keep out any future intruders.

I'd never seen anything like that before. The base of the tree was covered in saw dust - like from a buzz saw. So weird. Nature - you nasty.

So behind my guild in Legion but there's nothing I can do. A lot of guildies are unemployed or have few responsibilities. I miss the carefree days of my youth.

I was awakened today to the sound of a diesel engine as the trash truck passed by my house. Fortunately the sun was already up so I didn't feel so bad about it. Booted my pc while the coffee maker brewed a fresh pot and started my studies for the day.
