What first world problem did you have today?

Found out from the news that I've been living in the hood for years and didn't even notice. Gangs only seem to target each other though, so got that going for me.

Well this is bad.

I built a new system for my nephew late last year and I was left with his old Core i5 build (no PSU or HDD). To test an Elgato HDMI game capture device, I threw a 64GB SSD in there with an new/unused 650W Thermaltake PSU I had sitting around. I installed Windows 10 (just a trial, no product key), tested the game capture device, and disconnected it. I eventually planned to combine parts from the Antec 900 case with another and make another system out of it.

When the Windows 10 upgrade deadline was hours away, I gathered a few unused systems that still ran Win7/8. I grabbed the PSU from that i5 system and noticed it has sticky dried-up soda on it and inside. #@$%$#!!! It was only ever used for a few hours!

I pulled the video card out and found sticky dried-up soda on that too. I looked in the bottom of the case after removing the PSU and there was sticky dried soda there.

So a guest must have spilled soda into the 200mm fan of the Antec 900 case and wiped the top clean without telling me. It happened within the last 8 months.

I'm guessing it was the friend I allowed to stay at my place for about 1 month.

Shopping LED light bulbs. Damn.... I can get a 60W 800 lumen equivalent that only burns 8.5 watts now. Here I am in my room with my poverty 10.5 watt bulb.

Edit: I have to change a CFL bulb because some whiner needs everything to be fixed. It's a 3 bulb array, only 1 is down, it's bright enough for me.

Damn effing old tech toxic shit CFL light bulbs. Went to change the bulb, no big deal, took off the diffuser and found that the bulb that went out exploded where the glass tube met the plastic. Edge of the tube was completely black. Nice chip of glass on the diffuser, and a piece crumbled off as I carefully unscrewed it.

Great... Whatever mercury that wasn't bound to the glass/phosphor coating -- most of it should be but probably evaporates over time -- has been leaking into the room for days. Fuck it, going to trash/donate the half-dozen CFLs I have left and move straight to LEDs -- can get 3 for $12 now.

I don't think elemental mercury is a problem. Mercury used to be used as a treatment for syphilis IIRC. It's the organic forms that are the problem.

Related to the broken CFL bulb... I double-bagged the broken bulb after noticing glass chipping off inside the first bag.

Just a now, I found out that I truly do live among retards. Some fucktard decided to open the two bags to let the air out of the first bag -- along with all the evaporated mercury and mercury contaminated broken glass bits. I tied it with a bit of air inside to give it a cushion since it was going to be dropped in a recycling bin from a few feet up -- plus it went in a tiny cardboard box. Thank goodness I spent a half-hour wiping down the room last night.

It made me forget that I had laundry going and since my units aren't networked I don't get any notification when they're done.
