Short story: To play it safe I had to check in at work when I wasn't needed; my boss left yesterday without telling me what time he needed me in today.
Long story: Yesterday I bumped into my boss when I left my office and was in a rush to the restroom. I was already covering on my off day for my injured coworker (only other person to do this position) so I am deep into overtime. He stopped me and told me that he might need me to "close-only" later this week which means that I'll be covering half-days to shave hours (I normally work open-close). Before he could tell me specifics, someone interrupted us and started talking to him about some other business issue. I waited and stood around for a minute but I still had to go to the restroom badly so I decided to just check back with him in a minute.
When I came back he wasn't in the executive offices. I went back to my office and paged him using the facility's paging system and got no answer. Turns out the he left early for the day and I still had no idea if I was supposed to be there at open today or not.
This weekend is GA Tax-Free holiday for back to school stuff, so we expect to be really busy. Today seems like the most likely day they would want me to come in late. Even if he did confirm it before leaving, I still needed to know what time to come in! As a result, I had to get ready for work just in case only to turn right around and go home.
