Short story: To play it safe I had to check in at work when I wasn't needed; my boss left yesterday without telling me what time he needed me in today.

Long story: Yesterday I bumped into my boss when I left my office and was in a rush to the restroom. I was already covering on my off day for my injured coworker (only other person to do this position) so I am deep into overtime. He stopped me and told me that he might need me to "close-only" later this week which means that I'll be covering half-days to shave hours (I normally work open-close). Before he could tell me specifics, someone interrupted us and started talking to him about some other business issue. I waited and stood around for a minute but I still had to go to the restroom badly so I decided to just check back with him in a minute.

When I came back he wasn't in the executive offices. I went back to my office and paged him using the facility's paging system and got no answer. Turns out the he left early for the day and I still had no idea if I was supposed to be there at open today or not.

This weekend is GA Tax-Free holiday for back to school stuff, so we expect to be really busy. Today seems like the most likely day they would want me to come in late. Even if he did confirm it before leaving, I still needed to know what time to come in! As a result, I had to get ready for work just in case only to turn right around and go home.

While drinking my filtered water this morning and taking a multivitamin it kind of stuck in my throat a little bit. I had to take several extra sips of water.

Apple released iOS 9.3.3 on July 18. It is now July 28. Due to corporate VPN policies and the necessity of having the corporate spyware security software track with the OS version, users are not authorized to update until Simon Says. Simon never said "update" so here I sit with 9.3.2. This doesn't bother me even a little bit. What does bother me is the nastygram some sniveling little twit in IT just sent me telling me that my email will be disabled if I do not immediately upgrade to 9.3.3 and that my failure to upgrade promptly endangers our entire network and that I am a terribad person. This is exactly how dick pics end up getting sent out into the world.

^That is actually a pretty cool device -- won't lie, I am asking myself if my life is worth $90 right now.

Kind of disconcerting to know that I can have the life snuffed out of me choking on a chip with minimal knowledge on self-performing the Heimlich.

That's quite the rant.

My first world problem was the lack of any sort of desire to read past the first few sentences.
That wasn't the complete list either.

Bonus: I used Teamviewer to start the upgrade on my mom's PC. (7-hour drive away)
Upgrade finished, but now she's lost Internet connectivity, so it's back to troubleshooting by phone.

At least it didn't take more than half a day to finish, like it did for my tablet.

Went out, got ma dentrifico, what a mess outside. Non-stop contsruction everywhere. Even when it's not on the street, everyone's doing a full gut of their house.

We took over another NOC, problem is management seems to not care or want to do anything about the epidemic of misdirected phone calls that NOC number gets. We took it over at night so had an idea but now that it's 24/7 it's worse because all those calls come in the day too. We get all these weird phone calls that we can't do anything with and it makes us super busy for nothing. I suggested that they just change the main number and give it to the ones that actually are suppose to call here, and just make the old number go dead, but they don't want to.

That said, I missed quite a few phone calls while I was taking a dump. It kind of looks bad on us, but when you gotta go you gotta go.

I'm really thirsty for a pop but don't have any left here at work. Trying to think of anywhere in the area that might have an outside pop machine but don't think there's any. I can't really leave the office so it would have to be pretty much within the block. I might have to just drink water.

My overpriced no-name braided Mini-USB cable has a weak connector on the A-side.

On the other hand, my Anker Micro-USB is awesome on both sides. And this one's actually been used more frequently. Wonder if micro-mini adapters work well...

Sounds like a really high-tech operation. You know, they make wireless phones. Seems like it would be a requirement for a place with a lone employee.

I am not taking a phone in the bathroom or touching it before I've washed my hands. Kinda gross. We've all agreed to not do this, we do have a cordless but we don't bring it in the bathroom. Well I sometimes leave it on the sink so I can grab a phone call immediately after washing hands but that's as far as I'll go.

Firstworldproblem of the moment: Just spent a couple hours fighting with CentOS acting all weird. Forgot about disabling selinux. I really should set myself a server setup checklist or even a preinstall script so I can automate a lot of the repetitious stuff. I want to learn to make my own distro/modification of existing so I can have it all setup out of the box and streamlined to my needs but never get around to that.

I successfully salvaged an Atari 800XL cartridge connector with a bent pin. I desoldered, ejected the mangled pin; straightened it, ejected another that appeared to have no corresponding traces on the board, switched them, and soldered back in.

The FWP? A new replacement part with peace of mind would have only cost $2.50 but now I have to be mindful of the salvaged connector and gingerly insert carts when I use it (if it happened once before...).

Also, I wanted to desolder the CPU and PPU chips from three Nintendo consoles last night and socket them to prep them for a future Hi-Def NES installations and troubleshoot a suspected bad PPU on a fourth console but I'm out of appropriate sockets and headers. Now I'm stuck waiting for the ones that will be included with the kits but no idea how long that will be (could be weeks or months at this point).

Here's the trick (if you can't figure this out yourself): You don't touch it between wiping your ass and washing your hands. Any other time is fine. And if you're a paranoid germophobe, wipe down the phone at the start of your shift.

Spilled entire cup of coffee on my keyboard. Keyboard stopped functioning, PC wouldn't boot, when it was supposed to reach the home screen, only vertical bars on the monitor?!? Took it apart, cleaned and dried. PC booted but key presses randomly generated characters, half of the LED's flickering, unusable. Repeated the process. LED's back to 100%, keyboard now 99% back to normal function, left ALT key not working.

I'm confused. This sounds more like you spilled onto a notebook computer, not just a keyboard.

Desktop PC, only the keyboard was splashed. It could have been just a coincidence and my PSU is actually on it's way out however no other symptoms observed prior or afterwards.

In Windows, F3 searches. In most other applications, Ctrl-F brings up the search feature.

In Outlook, it's Ctrl-E to search mailboxes and F4 to search the content of a message.

Goddamit.
