I haven't broken one yet, but they don't get daily use. I have a bunch of presses I got from the thrift shop, and I don't think I paid more than $6 for any of them, all in like new condition. People buy them cause they're sexy and cool, but don't like the work involved, so off they go, and I get them.

I bought one but I can only do 1 cup at a time so I barely use it. It looked bigger in the picture lol. it's rated for like 6 cups, but there is not really any hard definition for what a cup is when it comes to coffee so it can be misleading.

Hardest thing to do is to say no to friends and family.

Bullshit. Just because I have a truck does not mean I'm in the "hauling your shit for you" business. Home Depot or Uhaul should be able to accommodate you just fine.

Wife wanted her oil changed in the 2020 RAV. She still has 2 free ones at the dealership but that's a 3hr time suck. I go to my regular place, after 20 min, guy comes out and tells me it takes 0w-16 oil and they have to go find some. Of course, they've already drained the old oil. And it's $16/qt...

They did bring me back to my office while they see about it.

Not as bad as it 1st sounded. They found the oil for cheaper so $85 total.

Still that sucks ... even more expensive oil changes!

I thought my Honda was a pain in the a$$ for requiring 0w-20 but at least at that weight its possible to get your hands on blends if you need to save a few bucks. (to be fair blends also don't last as long)

Wal-Mart has it for less than $30. They totally screwed you, man.

I use the 0W-20 synthetic in my HR-V. $25 at Wal-Mart, and Mobil 1 always has promotions, so I tend to get $15 back. $10 for 5qts. of full synthetic isn't bad!

See my next post.

The upside is that they checked. Who knows what goes on in the shop. If they even change the oil.

My best friend's a female who doesn't know shit about cars. A few years ago she told me it was about half the price at the Toyota dealer to get her Corolla's oil changed than any shop. Saying she had called all over checking prices. I laughed and told her that can't be right. I look and see her shit takes 0w-16 and I'm like WTF's this? She was indeed right, they charge her $40 and it's well over $65 anywhere else. But as you mentioned the dealer takes forfuckingever to get it done. And at least the one she goes to, I wouldn't trust them to do shit to my car. The last two times I picked it up for her, they brought me the wrong car

"here's your car"
"um, that's not the car"
"it's not?"
"Nope, that's a Land Cruiser, I'm here to get a 2015 Corolla"
"hmmm... BRB"

2nd time it was at least a Corolla, but it wasn't hers lol.

if I was dishonest I could have driven off in a nice Land Cruiser and just played dumb.

True, disposable after 300k miles.
For gas engines, toyota and honda seem to nearly indestructible engines - so long as you take good care of them. Up in the North East, rust gets them b/4 the engines die, unless you have a job that puts 2k miles on your car a week o_O.

Unless you got the Honda 3.5 V6 with the cheaped out pistons rings and had to have the engine pulled and rebuilt at less than 100k km.

why are you still using those late stone age "metrics"?
Ronnie Raygun. Manufacturing companies didn't want to change over, especially tool & die. Oh, and older people who weren't taught the metric system as my age cohort had been. Pissed me off. I still go back and forth between metric and le stupide système américain - much to the annoyance of my family.

Dang, their 3L V6s were pretty solid, IIRC. Didn't know the 3.5Ls were that bad. Maybe that's part of the reason they went with Turbo 4 bangers. The new F1 engines are pretty sweet, no exactly street legal though; and only good for 500km max.

At least it was done under warranty, unlike my MB E350 engine chewing up the balancing shaft with less than 100k km. I paid out of pocket for that engine rebuild... MB Canada is the worth company ever.
