Managed to break out of that mess and close the PDF tab. Damn that was a close call. Not going to try THAT again lol. Pretty sad state of affairs when I have to be careful how big of a PDF file I open.

The GPU shortage is ridiculous at this point, glad I'm not really in the market for any. Been what a few years at least now? When I wanted to get into mining they were hard to get then too and it's been quite a few years. Ironicly mining is part of the issue but I still blame the manufacturers since all they need to do is actually make more.

The manufacturers need to get their heads out of their asses and just make more cards. I don't think mining is going away any time soon. But they are too greedy and worry that miners will eventually flood the used market so people won't buy new cards. That's why they are keeping the shortage going.

Pretty sure they are making them as fast as they can, there is a global shortage on electronic components now. We got quoted 4 months just to get a sample to evaluate of a single board computer, a lot of common components like ceramic caps have been difficult to get (tho those seem fine now).

This card shortage has been going on for a good 3 years though. When I wanted to mine it was an issue too, I built a rig that could support 8 cards but was never able to get more than 2. Only place to buy was Ebay and they were higher than retail price. This was when GTX 1080's were fairly standard to mine on.

This all comes to show how ridiculous it is to rely on China for everything though. Having more localized manufacturing and supply chains would prevent these sort of issues. The real shortage is the GPU chips themselves and components as you said, but they've also had a good 3 years to sort that.

My truck died a couple of weeks back. Sold it to pick n pull for $172. Forgot to take the plates off.

Bought a used vehicle vehicle yesterday in a private party transaction. Need to take the title to DMV to get it retitled and registered. Also have to submit a lost/stolen plates affidavit. By law I have 30 days. I have to do it in person. Next available appointment is May 4.

I have to drive with no plates, no registration, and questionable title for over two months. I can only guess at how many times I'm going to get pulled over for this.

I can't get a temporary moving permit unless it's registered.

I can't get new plates until I register the new vehicle and surrender the old ones or attest to no longer having them.

Plates follow the owner. I forgot to pull them off when I sold the broken truck to pick n pull.

I'm SUPPOSED to put the plates from the truck on the new vehicle but I don't have them. I can get new plates but I have to have an appointment and do it in person. Everything is at least two months out.

Moved computer. Had to switch from ethernet to wifi. My internet access went from 300 mbit to 21 mbit.
Will need to figure out a solution. Probably a wifi router hooked up next to the cable modem.

Ended up crashing at this girls place in the city after a first date unexpectedly, got little sleep, had to rush home in the early morning cause my poor dog had to hold it in, then had a couple photo gigs today, ended up sleepwalking through them.

It was snowing/sleeting heavily last week and now it is raining, not hard but steady on and off and the sky is so cloudy and dark.
