What first world problem did you have today?

i'm trying to listen to some continuing education and i'm trying to pay attention but the guy in the video can't keep a consistent volume and the guy in the office next to me keeps shouting into his phone ugh

I hate trying to do stuff like that at work so many distractions, I wish they would let us do it at home. I asked and they wont let us. Some kind of policy that went in place a while back that nobody is allowed to work from home for any reason even training. I have the advantage of having shifts where I'm the only one in the building, such as night shifts and weekend shifts so I usually tend to do it during those times.

But since it has a mic too, I want to see if I can somehow make it work with the phone too, would be nice if I can just leave it on to answer calls. I could just use earbuds but I really don't like putting stuff in my ears.

Lol no, our PCs can barely handle anything as is I can't imagine putting that on it. And if there is a network issue or computer has to be rebooted we'd lose the ability to get/make calls.

Then again they did some weird changes to the way the PBX is setup years back and we do lose our phones now if we lose our internal network. They put the head unit off site for some stupid reason. If shit really hits the fan we do have a couple analog lines that go straight to the DMS and even a FX line that goes to another town though.

Set my toaster oven on fire tonight. Stuck some tatertots in, and promptly fell asleep. Woke up to a bunch of smoke. I unplugged it, and stuck it outside. The door handle melted off, and one of the feet. Guess I'll have to get a new one tomorrow :^/

Found out I'm actually not getting an office at work, after my promotion nearly a year ago to a management/process leader position. Turns out managing one employee doesn't cut it for them.

The part that angers me is we cannot justify hiring an additional engineer for me to manage, which would certainly help in getting over that wall; in essence, my chances of getting an office are basically nil.

Once you get down to it, the reason we cannot justify bringing on another team member is me not following the status quo - when I came into this position it was split off from the current team, which is led by someone who, and you know the type if you work in a technology field, forces others to do things his way (the only "right" way) and creates such a cluster-f that he and multiple engineers are necessary in order to keep it all under control. If you guessed he has an office, you'd be right.

I, on the other hand, have done the complete opposite. The guy who does things right the first time and makes the process he is responsible for nearly self-sustaining - I've taken it to a whole different level, where I really do not need another engineer to handle the work. If I had just gone with the flow, I could easily justify an additional two or three engineers and get myself an office... but you know, at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars in salaries, benefits, and training to the company.

I'm burning the candle at both ends. The stress, while manageable if I were able to get some peace and quiet for once and de-stress at work, simply builds not just each day, but seemingly each hour.

I've been loyal for the past 11 years and I have been compensated well, but this is making me seriously rethink why I'm still working there. I've come up with a good explanation of why I should get an office, so I'll be making my last-ditch effort in a few weeks.

If I'm still denied an office, then I'll have no choice but to tell them I will need to regularly take extended time off of work due to health reasons, and this will push my progress back quite a bit. They can either take that or fire me.

If you're ready to walk, I'd demand more money AND an office. Tell them it isn't a negotiation. You get it, or you're gone immediately. If you're correct, and you've saved the company hundreds of thousands of dollars, you should get a cut of that, and your life should be made better.

Get another job lined up before you do. If they don't see things the way you do...give them your notice.

Driving down the beach today...almost 2 hours after high tide...got hit by a "rogue" wave...ev3n though I was past the high tide high water mark, all of a sudden, I was driving in about 2 feet of salt water...and had the back window open for one of my dogs...when the water splashed through the open window...he got soaked. Actually toaster ovens seem pretty good at containing fire (I imagine ovens too).
My dad bought a new toaster oven that had a defective timer, it wouldn't shut off.
He wasn't paying attention and it caught fire...by the time the smoke had set off a detector it had already burned itself out.
After calling the manufacturer they told him to cut the cord and toss the toaster. They'd send him a new toaster after they got the cord.

Well I found that toaster in the trash, recovered it and wired in a new cord. That toaster still works years later (timer still broken).

Yeah the seat part comes off, but then I have to take the blue plastic part off and the steering panel off. And then I plan to take the monitor out as well for weight reasons.

Went to Wegmans this morning. I must have grabbed the wrong cart first thing inside. I put oranges, guacamole, and pico de gallo in my cart, and they weren't there when I got to the register. I noticed the oranges missing, so I got those while the guy in front got checked out, but didn't realize the other stuff was gone til I was on the road heading home. No guacamole or pico de gallo for me :^(

I think they are like 500ish lbs each total. I'm guessing once I take em apart as I plan that the main tall cabinet will be like 200-225lbs.

Do they work? Pretty cool thing to have in any case.

Yeah they are in working condition. I played both of them before I purchased them and everything on em works flawlessly. The force feedback is awesome on them.

Long story short...

I got around to turning my KI2 cabinet into a MAME cabinet. Then I told my wife I wanted to get a light gun game, and she was like "why dont you get a racing game? [our son] like those" and keep in mind he's 4. And I was like if I get 1, I have to get 2 so we can race together.

We switched to Outlook at work last week. This week we discovered that the IT folks screwed up the permissions and all employees can see any attachment any other employee sent to another employee, every single attachment.

We found the setting that controls who can see attachments. It turns out that if one uses cloud documents, not just attachments, anyone can see them by default. To fix it, each user has to go into settings and change the setting for their account. There is no centralized fix. Dumb.

On the upside, the number of emails I'm getting has plummeted as users can't figure out how to use the new system.
