The Anandtech "bright theme" reenabled itself again, and I can't see to find the option to change it back in the settings screen. Dammit.

Edit: It looks like they fixed this, but I wish that Future would stop screwing up these forum upgrades.

The writ has been dropped. Canadian federal elections started. 40 days of mayhem.

I'm f'ing pissed that the US is going to ban flavored e-cigs (and juice) because VAPING IS DANGEROUS OMG YOU'LL DIE. Fucking IDIOTS. Media don't help by making a huge deal of these handful of hospitalizations from shitty THC juice. Banning an entire portion of juice (flavored/fruity/sweet) because of this is so mindblowingly fucking idiotic it makes me want to scream. These fruity flavors helped me quit smoking cigs after a decade of a pack a day. Ugh. The meteor can't come soon enough.

Well, you know prohibition drives products to the black market and it's the unregulated crap that's killing people so you don't really need to kill off the whole world with a meteor. You'll be dead soon enough.

I like how the forum is always down for "upgrades" in the evening and not when traffic is lighter.

Had a bad a back spasm that significantly injured my SI joint (well two actually). Put on a muscle relaxer and a course of methyl prednisone and 8 Advil a day. Sitting and laying on the couch reading and watching a stupid amount YouTube videos. Fucking bored out of my mind, I have a bunch of things that need to get done

I've dealt with "SI Joint disfunction" for several years. It REALLY sucks when it flares up.

The amount of money spent on campaigning is insane too. Your tax dollars at work. Scheer even has his own campaign plane.

Just be glad ours are not as long and crazy as the US ones though. They're already talking about elections and it's only in 2020.

Wow! How do you get to know the candidates? This coming from a New Hampshire resident who's been to house parties were we would have a chance to actually ask questions of said candidates in small groups.

Yeah if I recall the last one was longer and it was just ridiculous. Got some good memes out of it so there's that!

He's just not ready, nice hair though.

We know the candidates from the election website. They tend to setup coffee stands at the commuter train station as well. I already know the candidates anyway.

Will be voting for the same person I voted for last election.

It generally takes less than a minute, five minutes max, of a candidate talking for me to cross them off the list. Finding candidates to vote for takes a bit longer.

I like it. 40 days is more than enough time for a campaign. The U.S. system of perpetual campaigning is ridiculous.
US spends so much money on elections yet there is no independent oversight. That is so fucked up.

Agreed. Given that the monetary requirements are so high, corporations and wealthy individuals (and anonymous groups now) have too much influence in our politics.

I don't get annoyed easily but the 4pm to midnight guy has so many quirks that annoy me.

- he eats supper between around 4 and 7. No joke, like a freaking 40 course meal. Getting up every 10 minutes to microwave something and then coming back to eat it. Not sure WTF he's eating latetly but it smells like rotten chicken. Always some weird funky smells in general.

- Every time he gets up (often) he drags his feet everywhere he goes.

- Also drags his feet when sitting down. He wears sandals and they make a really annoying "sand" sound on the ground. Like I think they literally are his beach sandals and still have lot of sand on them.

- He always likes to shut off half the lights, and also turns off the A/C.

- He's also the type of guy that I could see shoot up a building, so I have to walk on egg shells around him. Definitely can't make any remarks on his annoyances

Not so bad as the day shift guy, only have to put up with him from 4 to 7. The night shift guy (that will be me in a week) has to put up from 7 to 12.

Nice guy though. (this is a running joke in the office we always say that sarcastically lol)

IMMEDIATELY after the quarterly meeting started all the alarms went off.
Facilities.
Emergencies.
Manufacturing.
Warehouse.
Some stuff I've never seen before.

It was kinda beautiful in a Hindenburg sort of way.

Fibre cuts are always my favourite.

We lost an undersea cable several months back. There's two cables, both dropped at same time. Was all hands on deck, trying to fly in sat phones to the island etc, and they even flew in a microwave dish so they can bounce some 911 circuits off a satellite to a ground station. Fun stuff.

Turns out, the management for one fibre was riding on the other fibre, and vice versa, and the OTDR they were using was maxing out it's limit, so it showed that there were two cuts several km apart when really one fibre was good, but the management for it was on the cut one.

I shook my head once I found all this stuff out. Like who designed that and why was it never tested? lol.
