What they're trying to do is have the developer buy/raze/build and then lease the property back from the developer. All in a package deal, done and signed before the public finds out. Not that is would matter, our city does whatever they want regardless of public opinion. A while back, they wanted to add a 1% tax on prepared food. Multiple business owners showed up at the meetings and asked them not to. It passed unanimously. Same for a 3% accommodations tax. Even my VRBO has to pay it.
God forbid they try to control spending or something. Heard on the radio recently a neighboring county was raising a percentage based tax, and they said it hadn't been raised since some time a good while ago. The way it was stated, was like it was expected and needed cause it hadn't been done in awhile. Percentage taxes keep up with inflation by design. Instead of extracting more money from residents, they should figure out how they're fucking up, and fix that.

Have had that too and "but city X is doing it."

~4 years ago, they spent $2M renovating a building so they could move all of their offices into.

Someone scheduled a meeting over lunch. Worse yet, it's a meeting where we get the tell our users that we're setting up an annoying new regulatory process that will make their lives more difficult. I'm sure that will go over well on an empty stomach.

Depending on who it is, I'd tell them I expect food to be provided or they'll need to reschedule during working hours. I hate people like that.

Well... it came from my bosses, naturally. Otherwise, that meeting invite would have been instadeleted if it came from another department or a vendor.

Went to buy some beer at Walmart and found out a very interesting policy or " California" law. If the person before or after you has the idea of striking up a conversion with you prepare to just walk out the store without your beer.

No joke, i was told that to them it just appears your buying for people cause Walmart just assumes anyone talking to you is also with you. So remember if you get bored waiting in that long line with that beer don't ever strike up a conversion with someone. Keep that hole in your face shut and you will be ok i guess.

Conversation was a guy saying sorry for holding up the line, he had tried my beer and it was good and me mentioning i hope it is. That was it,i wasn't asking for a gosh dang it recipe for his grandmothers lasagna or something.

I'm doing some "hobby" analytics on about 5 million JSON files. They took me a whole week to download from the public API. (Would have taken like two months but I multithreaded the queries.) Yay network latency. (Average time to get one file: 750ms.)

Now I'm trying to load them into a sql database to run queries. Ran into the same latency issue loading each file from disk. So I did the same multithreading "trick" but Resource Monitor says I'm actually bumping up against my SSD's maximum sequential read speed now., and I don't think there's a way around that without another 200GB or so of RAM. :(

Made pasta salad for the first time in a looong time, and I was winging during the process. Got everything thing together, and forgot canned diced tomatoes. Looked in the cabinet, and no tomatoes; none that were suitable for an "Italian" flavor anyway. Plus side is I added smoked salmon for the first time. I *really* like that. Makes up for the bland color.

I ordered a pizza with pepperoni, ham, bacon and mushrooms. They put pineapple instead of pepperoni. FFS, I love pineapple but I can't stand it on a pizza, It's literally the worst topping on their list that they could put.
I tried to pick it out, but it still wasn't the best taste, we ended up throwing out a couple slices.

Seems like a simple fvcking thing to do, yet I have the same problem.
Yeah it does. I dunno what your reasoning for staying up late is but I feel like I'm missing out on me-time or something if I go to bed earlier. Even though at like 11:45 PM (when I should start getting ready for bed) I would have had multiple hours of relax/goof off/do-what-I-want time so it's not really true that I'm not getting any "me" time in if I go to bed earlier. But I can't seem to shake that belief/feeling. Grrrr.

I have the same issue. I found I actually need to try to go in bed before 9. If I wait, I seem to get a burst of energy around 10ish then it's VERY hard to fall asleep. Nothing worse than lying in bed for hours because you're not tired and can't fall asleep.

Of course it's rare I get the will power to go to bed that early in first place.

I'm glad I didn't take in all of my cable boxes to be upgraded.

I just took the one from my home theater. Hours later it's still not activated. I called tech support and the robot told me that there's some service being done in my area. There's no time table for activation of new devices.

I guess I'm watching SC finals in my bedroom.

Fucking imbeciles can't recognize satire produced by allied nations during the most important war since damn near ever. One day, a strong country's gonna rise, and they'll take over the world while everyone else is arguing about how their feels got hurt. Ironic...
Fucking video got removed today....

Hi lxskllr,
As you may know, our Community Guidelines describe which content we allow – and don’t allow – on YouTube. Your video General Adolf Takes Over was flagged to us for review. Upon review, we’ve determined that it violates our guidelines and we’ve removed it from YouTube.

We encourage you to review all videos in your account to make sure they are in line with our community guidelines as additional violations could result in strikes on your account, or even lead to account termination.

I don't even really care, but it pisses me off that they did it. Every time I get an email from them, my blood pressure goes up. I wonder what an account termination entails? Would they nuke my email too? That would be awesome. Just rip the bandaid off, and get on with my google-free life. Maybe I'll upload Birth of a Nation, and see how long it takes them to notice...

No I'm not fuckin' happy. How come they get to list the video, but I don't?! Like I said, I don't even care about the video. I got it from internetarchive, and uploaded to youtube so I could post it inline somewhere(can't remember where). It's just the point of it. If they removed it and didn't say anything, I doubt I'd have even noticed. I don't login to youtube, and with the benefit of hindsight, I'd have never gotten a google account at all. Having stupidity sent to my inbox just pisses me off, though it does have me interested in seeing exactly what's going to email, and eliminating it. Most important is my mother, but I can just change her address book when I go to her house, and she'd never notice. I have to see what else is in there...

Youtube censorship is ridiculous. I find the only thing that's really safe is vlogs and even then you have to be careful what you say. You can't swear at all, or give any opinion on certain things like political issues, especially SJW issues. It's not 100% Youtube's fault but the law as well. If they were not diligent they would get shut down.

As much as I like Youtube for the vast amount of video content I absolutely hate how it's managed. We need an alternative, ideally one hosted in a country that is less oppressive as the US when it comes to censorship. Ideally something somewhat distributed, like with a bunch of server nodes hosted in different countries. Whatever type of video is not allowed in one country could just be hosted on another node.
