Got struck by lightning last night. That's kind of problematic.

I felt the jolt of the lightning strike through my mouse hand. A loud POP. Room plunged into sudden darkness. The smell of fried electrical components tainted the air. Rain pounding outside.

Who knows how many appliances/devices are ruined. My pc is dead for sure. Could be facing total data loss - depends on the hard drive state. No power to the house. No water EVEN (pipe rupture?). No amenities. Camping now, basically. :tired::disrelieved::persevere:

Gofundme time?

Zoom meeting today with participants from a plethora of offices. It's like some of these people have never touched a computer. There is one participant who can't figure out how to turn off his mic. He has sinus issues. <sniff, SNUFFLE, suck in a loogie> :p

I wish I wanted to work on my mobile game more. Sometimes I get some ambition when browsing all the cool assets on the Unity Asset Store but then when I'm at home at night when I could work on it, I'm tired and just feel like watching videos or a movie. Sheit, I don't even hardly feel like playing any of the games I have (although I do want to get the newest Metro lol). fml

Bought a broken monitor from Goodwill for $12 and can't find the receipt to return it. I was assured they tested everything, but the screen comes on for less than a second and then turns off no matter how many times you push the button. Like I don't have enough computer junk laying around.

Donate it to the salvation army store and get $100 receipt.

Yikes that's scary. I would call city about no water though, the only way that can happen is the pipe is broken somewhere and it's probably undermining the ground. What probably happen is the lightning got shunted to ground through water pipe and it probably blew somewhere underground at a fitting or something.

Our central office got hit by lightening years back, they had to replace a whole whack of equipment. We had another central office hit a few years back. Both times it hit the GPS antenna. Those seem to like attracting lightning lol. My coworker was in the building when it got hit, he said he actually felt an odd static sensation, hairs started to go straight, and lights started to flicker, then he heard a loud bang, it sounded like a truck hitting the building. When he went out to check what happened, the GPS antenna was on the ground on fire and people were pointing and saying it got hit by lightening.

I really think the house's wiring could be grounded to the water line, as you describe. Strike happened around 2 AM. We called the city water utility within an hour or so.
Repairman showed up during the night, noticed a gout of water welling up from the ground beside the house, and shut the water off by the street. Today the plumber stopped by and restored the water line. We asked them not to fill in the hole they dug to access the line, so ... saved a bit of money there. We can fill it ourselves.

Power company dropped by ... fiddled around ... then departed without filling us in. Power's still off.

Phone company will likely stop by tomorrow. Phone line's dead too.

Been shopping for computer parts most of the day. I'm way out of the loop on modern hardware, so have to get up to speed. Haven't upgraded the pc since 2014.

Main tube on my new brushcutter got boogered up, so I ordered a new one today for $80. Just saw a post on how Stihl handles the insides, and it looks like it would fit my echo, and only costs $10 :^/

I've been procrastinating updating my license plate sticker with the mind set that May is still very far away... next thing you know, it's May and I still didn't do it.

I JUST did it today online but it will take a week or so before it comes in. Hopefully I don't get a ticket.

Recovering from last night's lightning strike.

The house's power was restored this evening. I've got a couple outdoor light fixtures that don't turn on, and a floor lamp. The DSL modem is dead. Wonder if its ac adapter fried, or what.
My pc miraculously booted like usual - but there's no video output. Sooo ... either the monitor or motherboard will need replacing. I'm using the onboard graphics - no discrete card.

More storms rumbling in the distance tonight - but radar shows them sliding by to the south. Really don't want a good soaking with that water line access hole still open. Hello, erosion.

Around here there's a 5 day grace period for auto registration renewal. So you'd have till May 5 here.

Technically I think here it's your birthday so for me that's the 13, but think it really depends on the cop. There's kinda a mixed feelings on how it's treated. If it's your birthday, or the 1st of the month of your birthday. Think I'll be ok though, I'll be on 12h shifts starting Monday so I leave home early and leave work late, during non prime hours so less chance of cops being around.

Jeez I think you take the cake on problems man. Hope you get everything back to normal soon!

For me, hmmm, I'll go with our AppSupport department at work. One long time employee left recently and we knew we were going to miss him. I think they're overwealmed (it's only a couple guys though we got a couple more recently) and the one that's now most senior is cool but he's just not as good as the guy who left. And now the scuttlebutt is, HE is going to be leaving us. Oh wow. It's gonna be a shitshow soon if that's the case. I need to get out of this fricking place before too long; just not happy here.

Just ordered a bunch of crap from amazon, and forgot to get earplugs. Never fails. I try to get everything at one time, but I always end up forgetting something :^/
