I woke up with super low water pressure this morning and so couldn't take a shower. So I was like "WTF mate" and just cleaned up and brushed my teeth the best I could and left for work. It turns out a water main broke and a whole bunch of towns are under a boil water advisory (and my city in particular has low pressure or no water). So in order for me to go to the bathroom and take a shower I got a motel for the next two nights; hopefully the thing will be fixed by then. So exciting!

Water Main Break in Oakland County, MI
Well I finally got back to my apartment at 10 pm last night after work and school and I did have water (though everyone is still under the boil advisory). So it turns out I don't need the motel, necessarily, but it's only for two nights and allows me to not boil water so whatever. But I had no idea when I'd have water and I knew motels were gonna fill up so I figured it was smart. Come Thursday after work if they haven't lifted the advisory I'll just have to boil it; thankfully I always have a couple cases or so of bottled water on hand (it's been sold out all around the area apparently).

And to top it all off, when I got home last night to check on things... no Internet (I was kinda glad I had a motel then lol). Ugh. Maybe it's related to this water main thing but I don't see how. I've been sending Twitter messages to Spectrum support whenever my Internet has been shitty or out and it sounds like they want to send someone out to check on things, cause I think something is wrong. It goes out or I get ~ 1 Mbps speeds wayyyy too often for it to just be "hiccups" or something.

See what riding in the cold gets you? A discount on jewelry. No idea why I didn't think of that.

Went to buy something nice from Ukraine. Blocked because I have no PayPal account. Can't I have nice things without a PayPal account? :grimacing:

I know you're thinking ... can anything nice come from Ukraine? We will see.

My new employer made me choose between a samsung S8 or iPhone 8. I went with the iPhone because I already have an S8+.

A little over 2 more months to go to close out the year and we at the office are working hard to close out several projects before year end while trying to get more required CPEs. At least the temperature is not as hot while I saw on TV the World Series temperate was over 100 degree in LA.

Took the airport shuttle to DIA to board my private jet. Turns out one of the pilots called in sick and I have to fly American first class instead.

Ate my last can of Look's smoked sardines with cracked pepper, and afaict, they're no longer available. The can I ate today I found in a backpack a year or so ago. Put them in there for a hike or something I guess. They "expired" a couple years ago, but were still delicious. I forgot how good they were. I looked on amazon, and found Bar Harbor smoked herring with cracked pepper, and ordered a dozen cans. I hope they're as good. They come from the same cannery, so they should at least be similar.

The hot peppers I got from the farmers market, weren't. They emphasized "hot" on their sign, so I expected something exceptionally hot. They're merely peppers :^( Made summer squash, onions, and peppers with canned tikka masala sauce for dinner. It was good, but I was looking forward to something with a little more kick.

Lots of snow storms and power outages in one of the regions we monitor so it was busy as hell at work today.

Those storms are making their way towards other regions we monitor so it means it will be double busy tomorrow because we'll be dealing with the aftermath of today and then the new outages that are likely to happen.

Oh well, job security, we have to be busy SOME times. :p

It's 2017 and laptops are still terrible about waking up from sleep mode. Might as well just reboot at this point.

Surely you've seen squirrels running along powerlines? He's their coordinator.

That's actually me messing with the competition, when it's a slow day.

Note to self: Fibre does not taste as good as copper. Pooping out shards of glass is particularly unpleasant as well. Never again.
