Yeah j don't understand why my landlord put the AC unit on the roof. It broke and he had to drop a grand just to get a crane out to fix it.

It can still get hot here in summer. I've seen some days hit like 35C, though that is rare. It's a luxery more than anything really, but a lot of people have been getting it. With global warming the summers are getting longer and hotter too, which is not necessarily a bad thing I guess.

I have a 1 ton portable that I rigged to my office window so I can cool at least that room for when I'm on the computer and the air would just eventually go throughout the house as the return vent is not far off, but it was just so loud. With the central AC I can do the whole house.

Problem is the hydro prices here are so ridiculous that I can feel myself getting analy raped by Kathleen Wynne every time I use it.

A would-be broker tried to sell me on the corporate bond market by pointing out that if I buy government bonds that the government just spends the money. I was like, "No s**t Sherlock, if I buy corporate bonds, what do they do with the money?"

So I went to pick up a rental car and they did not have my regular car so I got a compact and it did not have cruise control. Three hours trip with my right foot on the gas pedal was not fun. At least the gas mileage was very decent and the acceleration was very good.

Then I made it to Dallas and I-35 was under construction in several places so many of the exits were closed and I did have to drive further North than normal to make an exit and then the DART system did have contruction too so everyone was off to the shuttle bus to continue with the journey.

Since the gas milage of the rental was higher than expected, I overfilled the gas tank by at least 2-3 gallons (return with the same gas level as it was when I picked up). Oh, and the gas price in Dallas was 10-30 cents higher than in East Texas.

That's all I can recall right now. At least I did not get pull over by State Trooper.

Freaking 15 minute wait for the train. I might as well have biked home. This is unacceptable.

More gis follies, but this could go in the triumph thread also. We had work in an unfamiliar county, and needed contours for a site plan. County website didn't appear to have the easy to use arcgis, but they did have downloadable datasets, and I had my old nemesis qgis...

Contours were in individual .zips with a staggeringly small grid. You could view the grid on a pdf, but I couldn't see the pdf and gis data at the same time. So... A few trial/error download/imports later, and I found the right contour grid. Get it on the screen, but can't figure out how to export what I'm seeing to a usable format. Draftsman tells me he can use an image, any image, but he prefers tif or pdf. So I take a png screenshot, bring it into gimp, then export it as a tif. I get some complaints about the light blue not showing up well, so I look into making the lines dark in gimp. But get waved off. Turns out he can see it ok. He imports the pic, lines up the rights of way, and... the contours look fucked up. There's a big hole in the house...

He asks me if I can get the houses on gis, so I grab those from the site, and go to import them, but find my boss was fucking with my computer, and messed up the window. I can't find where to import the dataset, so I drag/drop the shapefile like a neanderthal, get the house in the picture, and repeat the screenshot/gimp routine, but this time exporting as a pdf. He brings that in, lines the house up with what we shot, and it looks great. The hole's out of the house, and in the pool :^D

So, I had the most retarded workflow that would have left Rube Goldberg thinking "Seriously? Was all that necessary?!", But I got the data needed, and I doubt anyone else would have been able to. I got a refund on the hours spent fucking with qgis over the last year or so.

So I totally forgot to put my dentist appointment in my phone and forgot it was yesterday morning. I'm on night shifts so it would have kind of sucked going to an appointment anyway because I need to go home and sleep so I can be ready for the next shift.

So I get home and go to sleep like normal, as I had totally forgot. I work from 7pm to 7am. So I get this call around 8:15 that wakes me up, I had probably JUST fell asleep. I notice the clock, and start freaking out, I thought it was 8pm and I had slept through and it was work calling me. So I answer the phone ready to say "oh shit don't know what happened I'm on my way" etc. But then it's the dental office talking about an appointment at 1pm. At this point I'm super confused, because I thought the appointment was at like 8:00 some time this week not 1:00 but then she says I missed it. At this poitn I'm still paniking about being late for work and now I'm even more confused because I did not realize I missed the appointment. Being super tired and confused I still could not figure out if it was AM or PM so I ended up asking in panic and explain that i think I just slept in and I'm late for work. She asks if I wanted to reschedule and I said I'll just call back later because I'm just too confused right now.

So I kinda made a fool of myself on the phone there, as I probably sounded super confused and panicked. That whole ordeal kept me up for a while since my heart was still racing, but also I was mad at myself for having missed the appointment. I dread going to the dentist, I just wanted to get that over with.

Called back after I had some sleep when I was more sane, and there was nothing available for a while so I'm on the cancellation list.

But damn, a phone call at 8am when you're suppose to be at work for 7pm is one hell of a way to try to give someone a heart attack.

Rained 2.8 inches in the past 4 days. Prior to that, we had 2.1 inches for all of 2017. Thats it.. just a lot of rain for us. The ground will love it though and hopefully after next week, it will taper off. I guess this isn't really a 1st world problem though since it will help the morels grow and everything.

Saw a really bad ass 16 bit Sonic and Tails hat on clearance at LIDS for $10 but didn't buy it. I'm going to be even poorer than I am currently over the next two years and need to save my money. :(

All our displays just got force rebooted and now I can't get into any of the machines because they decided to make the password expire now, and whoever last changed it never updated PINs. So now I'm dead in the water because I can't login to anything. Need to try to call out someone from help desk to reset the password.

I freaking hate this force reboot business, it's ridiculous.

Well all those forced reboots caught up with me. My webserver VM for the department is now corrupt. I knew this would be an issue. I just can't figure out how to automate it so it shuts down properly because the force reboot is not using the standard windows way of rebooting, it's some kind of script that just kills the OS and whatever is running.
