I think I'm going to get rid of my stereo system. Speakers will sell easy, but subwoofer weighs a ton, and my receiver might be on the way out so will be trashed. Entire set is right around ten years old so I got my money's worth.

Receiver is a bit concerning... Shot it with my infrared camera and got an 80 C reading inside. I probably didn't set the camera properly, but it's a ten year old, passively cooled, never cleaned out unit, so it wouldn't be impossible.

Think I'm going to downsize to cheapo speakers and use my already expensive headphones.

FYI, I go to a lot of yard/garage/tag/rummage sales and put on 2-3 a year - Stereo systems, and their components, simply have no value any more; they do not sell.

Better to try to donate it and get a little tax credit.

I forgot to buy a ticket for Mega Millions last night. Now it is up to almost 300 million and I have to buy one before Tuesday of next week. WWJD.

That's good to know considering the fact that the htpc receiver seems to be dead. Either that or it forgot how to speak hdmi.

Ordered burger and fries for pickup at a local joint. They said 5 minutes.

5 minuted later I walk in and my shit ain't ready. Had to wait another entire minute.

Paid with my credit card and left
That's what I like about the Chinese restaurant I go to. If they say it'll be ready in 15 minutes, it's ready in 10.

My FWP - damned ground hogs keep digging up my yard and I'm too much of a pussy to gas/smoke them.

Dahell, what? Have people all moved to preboxed systems? Or do they just not care anymore and just want compact/portable (i.e. Bluetooth speakers)?

Seriously, bought mine in 2005 or 2006, and I haven't kept up since then. I can see why people don't want anything to do with them: complicated to set up, expensive, heavy and big, can't really tell the difference...

Edit: Damnit. I'm almost 3 years too late?

Wal-Mart isn't going to take Visa in Canada anymore -- some stupid corporate catfight from the U.S. bleeding over. They'll still take American Express though, apparently. I have a Mastercard but I never use it... so I'm going to show them by using cash because my other option doesn't take Visa either.

Watched a bit of the Tony Awards for the first time ever. Is it me, or do the people get more worked up over winning than the Emmy's, Globes, and even the Oscars...

Was doing battery maintenance on my UPS batteries and ran out of distilled water. Now I have to wait until tomorrow so I can buy more at the grocery store. Shoppers Drug Mart might sell some though, but don't feel like driving there for nothing if they don't.

Wait, I don't think running out of water counts as a 1st world problem. :hmm:
But you are able to say "No, that water's not good enough" when many gallons of perfectly drinkable water are readily available.
...and you're after special water to use on on a computer's backup battery, not to keep yourself alive.

No matter how many times I gently correct them, my wife and my mother-in-law keep referring to Amazon as "Amazon Prime", as if it is a separate entity ("I ordered something from Amazon Prime").

I know it should not bother me that much (or at all), but it does.

So there.

I think if you are under 65 then you should know the difference. If you are over 65 it is OK to get these things mixed up.

Not if it has clearly been explained to you a number of times (and you are not senile or stupid).

My guess is that saying just "Amazon" doesn't feel specific enough for them. But it could be worse. They could instead be saying something like "The amazon." Grrrrr. That's like nails on a chalk board.

Got a new flashlight and the designers decided to attach a pen clip to the tail-cap. The tip of the pen clip is in full contact with the barrel so it'll probably scratch the hell out of the barrel over time. Now I have to remember pull the pen clip back while unscrewing the tail-cap. Tail switch also sucks and is very hard to activate.

My parents don't understand the difference between Android and iOS. They don't understand that Android is an open source platform used by multiple manufacturers - Samsung, LG, HTC, etc. I don't know how many times I've tried to explain it but they just will not understand that fact, even though they both own iphones and amazon kindle fires.

EDIT - they also don't understand Nexus phones. "That's a google phone? Wow I didn't know google made phones..." I usually just say "yep, they sure do!" and leave it at that rather than explain how Google partners with a manufacturer each generation etc. and how their tablets they have are running a different iterationof Android just like my phone runs.

oddly enough, I sold some polk stuff (5.1 setup), 3 years ago for $550, I think I paid about $1000 or so, I was happy with that...now I know in the future to wait a few weeks for something decent enough to pop up on CL to get a deal. The technology doesn't change that much, same for headphones.

They probably include "Prime" in their statement so you know it's coming in half the time.

Cheap Harbor Freight combination lock just fell apart on me at work today:

The thing is, I almost never lock it and wasn't even locking it when it happened. I was just snaking the hook back through after closing the locker door so that it wouldn't swing open when the lock just fell off and I was left holding the hook.

^I think I used the same Fellowes or whatever padlock from junior high all through high school. Six years and it still works -- I have it on a shelf, can still remember my combo. It's 35, 7, 22... Have fun unlocking it over the interwebs?

Lol wow that's pretty bad. Reminds me of my high school lock actually, but mine was blue, and had a little key hole in the back since the administration had a master key to get into any locker in case you forgot your combo, or to check for drugs and stuff.

I still have it, but forgot the combo, one of these days I should try to brute force it for fun, I still have it. Maybe if I can unlock it, I'll stop getting those weird dreams that I'm back in school and keep forgetting my combination. :D

Today's first world problem for me is that after I mowed the lawn I decided to go for a walk in a nature trail, but the mosquitoes were so freaking bad I walked the rest of the way on the street, but was walking against the sun. Was hard on the eyes, and my face got sun burned. I had no sun glasses or hat since I had intended to stay in the trail. Next time I will put on lots of bug spray, I usually hate using that stuff as it makes me all sticky but I end up taking a shower after anyway.

Found this unopened package of liquified Sour Worm gummies in the car. I put them in the freezer but they didn't revert to their original state. Curious, I decided to try a bite before throwing them away. Yum? Nope.

But that's not the FWP that brought me here today. It was a confluence of FWPs:

The railroad crossing was malfunctioning (lights, bells, lowered crossing arms, but NO TRAIN) so I turned around to pass at the next crossing that I could see was still passable. Before I could turn into the parking lot I heard a distant train horn blow so I decided that I should probably go to the next crossing (a bridge) instead. While stuck at a light with the passable crossing to my left, I could tell that there was no train after all (it had been several minutes and the crossing arms were still vertical), so I turned left when the light turned green. Just before I could cross, the light and bells started and the crossing arms lowered. Damn! Now they were both impassible.

I turned around again and made my way to the bridge. I crossed and tried to get back to the original street, but other cars backed up at the crossings were cluelessly blocking me from the perpendicular streets. I had to honk at a BMW who was pulling forward to block me from entering when the car in front of him finally pulled forward to allow me in. As soon as I got back on the street where all this started I encountered a malfunctioning stoplight after last night's storm (stuck on yellow for a cross street). It was the same one I encountered at 1AM the night before but this time there were other vehicles backed up who didn't know and I was forced to wait inordinately long.

This malfunctioning one is normally fine after a storm but there is another nearby that often has a similar issue. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it turned green as I approached and stayed green long enough to allow traffic to pass (unlike when it malfunctions). Unfortunately, the van in front of me was completely oblivious and just sat there while I honked at him.

I finally got through and decided to take a side street instead of waiting behind others to turn right at the next light. That ended up being a terrible idea because all the people from a local cross fit training club were running in the street, doing laps in my lane that already had vehicles parked in it, forcing me entirely into the oncoming lane with a blind left turn. Of course, a car just has to come as I'm approaching the turn and I have to slowly back up and hope another car doesn't come when I get the opportunity to try again. Well, another car came when I had the opportunity to try again.

I didn't even mention the slowpoke doing 30 in a 55 right after all that but, all in all, my 3 minute commute took 10 times as long and I was 1 minute late for work despite leaving much earlier.
