Made microwave popcorn for the first time in years. It somehow slipped my mind that microwave popcorn bags were paper laminated in plastic -- now I'll have to learn to use a stove because I can't find a good air popper and tempered glass containers may explode in the microwave. FML, why is making popcorn so hard...
:\ I think you should stop killing corn. You evil bastard.

Drink more water. Thats the MAIN problem and nobody ever seems to want to actually fix it.

I know some people are going to bash me, but whatevs yo -

We as americans drink WAY too much water. This whole drink 1 or 2 gallons a day (or whatever the stupid shit it happens to be this month) is a crock of shit. Explore the world a little and hit up ANY other country and they will scratch their heads as you guys take a gallon jug of water with you everywhere you go. Their cups are fucking tiny. They have ~6oz of juice with a meal and occasionally have a small cup of water (and not from huge bottles, again with tiny cups).

The human body doesn't need that much water.

So, apparently, the piece of shit microwave popcorn I just made is/was notorious for starting fires in microwaves and melting plastic according to online reviews. I saw some small scorch marks on my bag and butter leaked out on that side, so yep, probably ate some melted plastic and breathed the fumes in. Who'd have thought a fucking bag of microwave popcorn got so complicated in the past few years.

I haven't had a drop of water since I discovered beer. And given how expensive bottled water is, I'm saving money!

My first world problem happened a week or so ago, but it's ongoing... I had a huge bag of apples in my hand while at the store, but I put them down to see if there was anything better loose. Didn't see anything exciting, so I got the huge bag.

Problem was I wasn't paying attention, and got a family sized bag of fuckin' red delicious. The only apple that's worse than having no apples at all. I wanted the Macintoshes, but now I'm stuck with these horrible abominations for the next couple weeks assuming I can force one down per day :^S

Still have 7 apples left. I wish I paid closer attention cause I'm fairly certain they're reproducing in the bag. Jesus ain't got nothin' on me. I have the satanic bag of red delicious.

i realized i have no clue about apple varieties.

There's so many, and they're hard to keep track of. Winesap's my favorite, but you can only get them in the fall. Honeycrisp, pink lady, and jazz are pretty reliable. Macintosh is decent, but nothing exciting. I used to really like GrannySmith, but I burned out on them. They aren't that good compared to the new styles, but they're a million times better than the ~early 90s standards.

What I need to do is get all the ones Wegmans sells, and takes notes on them. There's some widely sold varieties I like, but they look similar to varieties that are pretty meh, so I'm afraid to get a whole bag thinking I might be remembering wrong.

In any case, stay far away from red delicious. They're one of the prettiest apples; picture perfect, but the trade off is terrible flavor.

Wikipedia said:
Roger Yepsen notes some of its less desirable qualities, "The skin is thick and bitter and has to be chewed vigorously... this apple ranks close to the bottom when cooked... sold year round, so shop with skepticism. Delicious retains its cheerful good looks long after its flavor has departed.

If you live in apple country, you go to the orchards at harvest time. If you don't live in apple country, you're stuck with whatever varieties the national food chains have contracted for. You have no input on what your local supermarket carries. Thank you corporate food stores! You know best! I'm so glad I don't have to worry my pretty little head about what to eat.

I have no idea how you're failing at this. I think something is missing from your description.

You put the microwave popcorn in the microwave and turned it on. What happened to the popcorn exactly?

You do know you're supposed to remove the plastic wrapper, right?

I finished upgrading my CNC machine, but it's too late to start a run, so I have to wait until tomorrow to see how well it works.

It came out 90% fine with a few unpopped kernels and maybe 10 slightly burned pieces of popcorn. There were some brown marks on the bottom of the bag where it leaked a bit of butter -- the bag consisted of paper with an interior plastic lining. For the butter to leak out, the plastic either had to have a gap or it melted and broke the barrier. However, there wasn't any clear sign of melting.

Googling the brand and looking at reviews showed that more than a few people had entire bags catch fire. "Luckier" ones just had plastic melt or smoke.

So, I think I got lucky, but going full paranoid right now.

A wok makes a more than acceptable popcorn popper. Not as easy as microwave, but much cheaper, and probably healthier.

HEB carries like 15 varieties, so there's that, at least.

Just trashed 5 bags of unopened/cooked microwave popcorn. Not risking melting plastic or starting a fire -- way too many reports online to be random or accidental. I think it may have something to do with the move away from PFOA (used in non-stick cookware material?) to "safer" plastics. Funny because the PFOA thing was part of the reason I stopped buying microwave popcorn years ago.
