Hadn't rained for about a week or longer so I spent an hour watering flowers and plants and the there was a torrential soaking rain last night.

My Facebook news feed seems to have very abruptly started spamming me with Far Side comics. Prior to this it had been years since I saw a Far Side comic. Now all of a sudden every 10th post in my feed is some random suggested person or group posting Far Side comics. Wtf.

Went to the delicious hole in the wall Chinese food spot up the street that gives you a nonsensical amount of food for under $10. I noticed they also have a "large" sized container for $2 more. So I decided why not, well this makes the regular sized look like a reasonable amount of food. And now I've eaten so much Orange Chicken I might wake up tomorrow the same color as Trump.

getting this much food for $12 is scary and a 1stworldproblem (because I can't stop eating it) another 1stworldproblem I don't even begin to know how to log this meal in Myfitnesspal. I don't know how much but I'm pretty sure I ate like 5 servings of rice, orange chicken and Teriyaki Chicken, and I still have a lot left.

Another 1st world problem is creating new problems for yourself that you could easily prevent. Like obesity and diabetes :p

Damn, you're making me hungry.

The US does tend towards vast portion sizes, as I recall from visits. Has inflation not affected that?

Here even the cheapest generic takeaway places have increased prices massively, to the point where I now find them far easier to resist.

I've pretty much been forced to eat more healthily. Repeatedly found myself having to put off doing a food shop till I had more money in the bank, and thus left with no choice but to dig around in the back of the cupboard or the freezer and get out all the 'healthy' food (those tins of beans, bags of frozen spinach, etc) I bought a year or so ago in a fit of good intentions but never felt like eating.

I recall that US is infamous for wasting excess food rather than exporting it. So don't think inflation would do anything. Yeah, prices must have risen but there's just too much food so they give away generously, and waste the rest of it, unfortunately.

Inflation has definitely had an effect here. I remember just a few years ago this same Chinese spot gave you a potential coma-inducing amount of food for I think it was $7.00, now it's $9.75

About 5 minutes before I finished making dinner last night:

1) My fridge decided to start leaking water all over the floor
2) The gas in my grill ran out

So I spent about 15 minutes wiping up all the water, then I had to cook my burger inside while my potato and corn got cold. Then after dinner I had to unclog the drain gasket and de-ice the freezer/drain line.

sigh

Had that fridge problem on the last one. Repair guy had no clue. After we got rid of it, found a simple fix. Hook a thin copper wire on the defrost coils and run it down the drain tube. YMMV

Kind of a FWP, kind of a P&N thing, but I'm in the process of switching jobs and just found out that at the new job there's a conference that I will have to go to in Orlando despite vowing to never set foot in that state again.

I want to buy a dishwasher from Costco. It's on sale for $1,000 with free installation and haul away until 8/23 but I don't know if the price will be better now or at the end of August or beginning of September for Labor Day.

I got a call from a former client complaining that someone had overstaked his mining claim. I dug into the public records and someone has been a bad boy. Ebay mining claim sales strike again. The claims in one area are stacked six deep. :p I sort of feel bad for the judge who gets to sort this out.

I was asked to serve on the board of a hobbyist group. In came to the attention of the board that many folks aren't renewing their memberships (nominal annual fee). The board is pondering why this is. It has somehow escaped the notice of the board that the membership averages significantly older than the U.S. Senate. We have members who served in the Korean War and possibly one or two WWII vets. My suggestion that folks weren't renewing because they were dead was brushed aside as a stupid newbie comment. So the board devised a plan where board members would call former group members and ask them to consider rejoining. At least some widows got a friendly phone call out of it.
