I need to replace sime of my gear, i always use bic lighters, they are light cheap and durable but suck in windy environments.

Thinking about doing bics and a magnesium shaving backup ligter

What do you guys do? I used to have a bad ass colibri butane u could practically weld with but i havent used one at high altitude or in a humid/wet environment.

I think the fancy weather resistant lighters using butane online look like overkill...

BBQ lighter. That extra reach useful to get inside the "teepee" that you create with the kindling with the paper inside of it.

Take a plastic spice jar, and cut a rubber gasket for under the lid. Put a Bic lighter in that. I used to take cigarettes, and a lighter WW paddling like that, and they can stay submerged for hours, and not leak. As a backup, take a magnesium/flint combo tool. You won't need it, but it's fun to play with.

yea they are nice. however i havent seen a paper egg carton in like a decade

I just bought an 18 pack of eggs last weekend in a cardboard wapper. It's a regional grocery store, not walmart that I was shopping at.

Magnesium. Learned about it back when I bowhunted with my step dad as the older compound bow risers from the 80's were made of it, so you had a great survival backup. Stuff gets so hot they use it for underwater welding.. no problem with wetness ;)

They're about 50:50 around here. A few use the clear(PS?) plastic also. I prefer paper, and will choose that if given a choice.

This. It's also good so you don't burn the hair off your hand the first time you prime a whisperlite (I'm better at this now and could probably use a bic, but I'll just stick to the grill lighter).

A baggy of lint from your clothes dryer is also very useful and adds almost zero weight to your pack. Also, I have used potato chips to help light fires, the oil allows them to burn for a decent amount of time.
