Are we talking singing voice or talking voice? (They do differ quite a bit sometimes, particularly with british bands)

Just fvck pop vocalists.. turning to non-mainstream music and you'll see A LOT of excellent jazz vocalists.
 
My all time favorite female singer's voice is Sarah Vaughan. I recently &quot;discovered&quot; her. IMHO she blows Billie Holiday outta the water with her style, exceptional range, power and emotion.

Sarah Vaughan - also called &quot;The Divine One&quot; - had a long recording career from 1944-1987. Primarily she was a jazz vocalist but did popular works also.

Of the recent artists - Dido. After d/l'ing her entire album from Napster, I had to buy her album.
 
i'm extremely partial but: MADONNA

sarah mclachlan and natalie merchant are cool too... saw them in concert...

and i'd like to vote for britney for highest L2VR (Looks to Voice Ratio) of any artist ever...
 
Add another for Sarah McLachlan. She may not have the absolute best voice in terms of range, but it's extremely soothing to listen to her sing and that's &quot;nice&quot; (the criteria cited in this thread.) I personally think it's a lot better than listening to Mariah Carey see if she can make glass shatter. Allison Krauss is good too, it's just a little TOO soft for me in most cases. I also like Lisa Loeb for the cute, nerdy, girl-next door look and sound.
