I hardly ever see any on the road anymore. My friend in college even had a DIESEL one! :)

<--has driven a diesel Chevette & even wanted one for a while, but didn't get one...

I'm pretty sure they've all been crushed, and that's not necessarily a bad thing:D

LOL! Nice.

Believe it or not, I even did the wild thing in the backseat of a Chevette. I'm 6'1". Hey, where there's a will, there's ALWAYS a way.:D

I've been told by people up here in the midwest that you could actually HEAR them rusting away.

That's the same reason you don't see any Vegas up here, either.

friend of mine's family owned like 3 at the same time... one was used for "fun" (running into stopsigns, hitting shopping carts)... one was going to be used in a demolition derby, and the other one disappeared one day...

Chevettes have got to be the biggest pieces of sh!t ever, they had ZERO quality just like the Vega. I am not surprised you don't see any on the road anymore, after a certain amount of miles they just began to disintegrate and were not worth fixing so most people didn't fix them. I never even see them in junkyards anymore which means they are truly extinct.

Their front end components live on in your Fiero, at least I know the steering rack & pinion for Fiero's were taken directly from the Chevette.

Ecch, there was a time when my parents had TWO '76 Chevettes....1.4L and automatic, to boot :( One was lemon yellow (took my driver's test in that one) and one butterscotch one (ewww....).

I had an '82 Chevette in the late 80's. It was the low-end model, one thing it didn't come with was a glove compartment door.

I remember when I was young, some older guys put a V8 in a Chevette. No exhaust, basically just a 1 weekend beater car

My brother-in-law runs an auto repair shop. His mechanics would refer to these cars as "shove-its". The transmission design utilized plastic bushings and there were many parts of the engine that used the lowest quality parts then available.

Think of these as the emachines of the 1970's auto world.
