The way I pronounce it in Mandarin is "le". I think the Cantonese dialects use "la".

There's also the "ba" term, used in a similar context except for more of a encouraging connotation.

'la' and 'le' are two completely different words and in fact, many chinese characters have the pinyin sound of 'le' or 'la'...so really we can't tell you exactly what it means b/c it's different in different contexts.
