it can be used for slang for hot, as in a girl is hot, too.

The way I pronounce it in Mandarin is "le". I think the Cantonese dialects use "la".

There's also the "ba" term, used in a similar context except for more of a encouraging connotation.

No. It's a Cantonese thing usually. "I dunno la" "So sorry la" Thus its a southern thing. You won't hear it in Taiwan very much nor mainland China.

'la' and 'le' are two completely different words and in fact, many chinese characters have the pinyin sound of 'le' or 'la'...so really we can't tell you exactly what it means b/c it's different in different contexts.

I've only heard it it Singapore & Malasia......... I am Cantonese and I never use it like the Sings & Malays
