what does it mean when a girl says they want to keep their maiden name?

if a girl mentions that they want to keep their last name when they get married casually. Then takes it back and says okay to changing last name to groom's last name.

She wants to save the trouble of changing it back when she gets divorced.

I kept my maiden name. It just looked and sounded a lot nicer... plus, I was young and had this silly sense of over independence.

If/when I marry the b/f, I will probably take his last name. Mine is still nicer, but it would hurt him if I did not.

:)

A statement that she is an equal partner in the relationship, and does not want to be considered equivalent to a piece of property.

Possibly unsure of her identity or that it will be lost if she changes her name.

I don't see any issues with it. My wife kept her lastname. But what she did was move it to her middle name and used my last name when we married.

That is how many do it.

If you two did/would have had kids in that relationship, whose last name does the child get?

I'd feel way to uncomfortable about it, I'd just have to put her straight as well. Two different surnames within a family is way too confusing, there will be arguing later on about which surname belongs to the children, hassle hassle hassle.

...and no, having a surname like McDonald-Jones aint right either, keep it fookin simple, geezus, over complicate things over a damn name.

Is that customary, or does it happen after an argument, or how exactly does that go off?
I knew you had a daughter, I don't know where my brain was, sorry.
