spent 2 hours in the car today, and along the way, I was listening to a CD by a british rapper.

she kept mentioning ginger as in "feeling ginger."

wtf does it mean?

I get ginger = a person with red hair, but I don't grok what ginger means as a slang word for an emotion.

edit: didn't even think about google, apparently it's slang for queer:

A search through a UK slang dictionary brings up this:

ginger
Noun.

1. Homosexual. Rhyming slang, from Ginger beer - 'queer'.
2. A ginger or red haired person. Pronounced with hard g's as in goggles.
3. Carbonated drink, such as cola. [Scottish use]

http://www.peevish.co.uk/slang/g.htm

Sounds like #1 then. WTF is with the pronounication hint for #2? Ging - Gerr?

Thanks to southpark though the definition will forever be:

people with red hair, freckles, and pale skin - are disgusting and are inherently evil, have no souls, and are unable to walk around during the day because of this

I live in the UK and recognise 'feeling ginger' as being out of sorts, not feeling very well. Ginger is a verb: 'to treat with care'. Gingerly is an adverb: 'gently, in a delicate or cautious manner'. Hence if you had a hangover, you'd move gingerly to minimise feelings of nausea etc.

The popular pronunciation for 'ginger' when used as an insult has 'ging' like sing, or gingham, or minger. It's effectively minger with a g instead of an m.

It can also be used as a verb to describe the sadomasochistic act of sticking a piece of ginger up the anus or vaginia of a man or woman...

anyhoo, I recently went through "Flight of the Conchords" season via Netflix, and was also curious about this. I don't quite know what to think of the insult "ginger balls." (which the band applied to Murray a few times)

I should mention that these writers/actors are Kiwis, so it wouldn't necessarily be British slang...

This. Geez. How far we've become dumbed-down about our own language.

Ginger means the same thing in NZ as it does in USA. Ginger balls means you have ginger hair on your balls. It most definitely doesn't mean "i love you" in NZ.
