Any thoughts? They are running a deal: $39.99 for 600 anytime minuites for a year plus 2000 weekend minuites.

Cant seem to find any catches.. and for in in the NYC area it looks pretty good..

I don't know about the NYC area, but they seem to be a good choice in the Midwest. My buddy gets good reception in places that nobody else can around here and he uses VoiceStream.

Voicestream *seems* to have good service. My best friend won't use anyone else because of their service.

I do get the all circuits busy more than I would like. But I almost always get through on the second try, I got tons of minutes for cheap, free phone, and they are nowhere as bad as Sprint PCS was. I give them a thumbs up. For mission critical calls, get a satellite phone :D

I just said the same thing in another post - Voicestream SUCKS. They are a very poor company and will screw you over any chance they get. I would very highly recommend that you avoid them completely.

<<Not to in depth there are ya..

Verizon costs more..>>

Not if your buddy works for them!;)

I haven't had any problems what so ever. They may cost more(I'm not sure), but you get what you pay for.

I was very displeased with VoiceStream.
Major billing problems and poor reception.

VoiceStream seems to hire the most rude and incomprehensible CSRs in the world. I've had quite a few billing disputes and I almost thought about giving into the latest ones since I didn't want to deal with their customer support.

I think everyone's experience with VoiceStream Wireless differs depending on:

1) Your geographical region.
2) Your calling habits, if you call long distance and roam a lot.
3) Your cell phone and your expectations of the company.

rootaxs (Houston, TX) and I (Portland, Oregon) haven't had any major problems with VoiceStream and are satisfied with the service we have received. We both posted in this thread.

If you really want to gauge New Yorkers opinions of VoiceStream your best bet is to read the close to 200 posts in the UseNet NewsGroup alt.cellular.gsm.carriers.voicestream (all 200 posts pertain to NY so there'll be a lot of reading).

Of course VoiceStream is far from perfect:

1) I wish they had better coverage in Oregon, especially between Portland and the coast.
2) I haven't really experienced a lot of rude CSRs since I rarely have to call them but they seem pretty clueless.
3) Even though my Nokia 6190 had a 1 year manufacturer's warranty, I was charged $70 to replace it 8 months after sending it in. I'm still in the process of disputing this charge with VoiceStream.
4) Nationwide coverage is no where as good as AT&T Wireless, Sprint PCS and Verizon.
5) If you do a lot of long distance calling and/or roam VoiceStream is NOT the most cost effective provider for you, look elsewhere.

Bang for buck I could not resist VoiceStream's 2,600 minutes a month for $39.99, 600 weekday anytime and 2,000 nationwide free long distance weekend minutes, great Nokia phones, online billing, SMS, the works!

The catch is, you will find that they can never get your bill right, and SUPRISE! It is always waaay to high! I had to get a lawyer involved before my bill got straightened out.

Their billing practices are SUCK!!!!!!!!

I would not wish VoiceStream on my worst enemy.
