I heard one of the talking heads say something interesting: Running QB's like Vick, RG3 and Kap are not too good at short passes but are great at the long ball. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. So now that teams are trying to limit the number of runs these guys have, they are forced to throw more short passes which aren't their strong suit. Previously on 2 & 10 they would probably run an option to get a few yards, a short pass would have been about 4th on their list of plays. Not saying they can't throw them, just that they are better at deep passes.

No idea if any of that is true but it does make sense.

Until Sunday; he had the best team record in the league. Now there are three teams with a 9-1; and they are concerned?

One slip and adios. In that case; there should be at least 4 other teams firing coaches after a loss to a team with a 9 win record last week or to Seattle this week.

KC should have waited until the second game to see if lessons learned would apply.
All but ensures that Denver will win the rematch when the management has no faith in the team that was built.

That is pretty crazy... Because Kaep has shown a good long ball, but not so much at the short game, which was pretty much the opposite with Smith, his long ball is almost non-existent. Two years ago when they beat the Saints in the playoffs, his long ball to Davis for the TD REALLY surprised me, I was like WTF did that come from??

Well, he will only have to pay half of that then. Ray Lewis said he'd pick up half the fine, almost goading the NFL into fining Brooks.


I don't agree with the fine at all. The penalty, I could accept because it is a judgement call and they don't get to examine it. I am sure it looked pretty bad at the time of from certain angles. The NFL, on the other hand, can clearly see the defender hit Brees in the chest perfectly. He did what the NFL is telling defensive players to do. There was very little else he could do on that hit to be more textbook "safe hit" on a QB. The fact that Brees is a tiny guy and slid down during the tackle is not reason to fine Brooks.

Redskins are goddamn terrible. Games only look close because RG3 seems to be the captain of garbage time this season.

Gore will have no trouble running on them, and even Kaeperhole might grow a pair and start hitting his targets this week.

It will still be ~27-23 or so in the end, with an entertaining 2nd half, but the game should be over by halftime.
 
And in some strange universe, this week the Bills could quite possibly come that much closer to actually making the playoffs without even playing.

I agree, but not so much in garbage time as in desperation. I think there's a difference because the Eagles were still playing defense.

I agree though, and Shanny is terrible and I stand by that. No Elway, no rings...shucks, how many playoffs has he made since his last SB?

One, two? I don't have the stats, but I'd say at least 1 in the last 12 years and he is still this employable.

We can certainly understand the increasing frustration of tacklers with a shrinking zone in which to strike ball carriers and quarterbacks, but any hit that resembles a clothesline in real time is going to be called if it involves a defenseless player.

Lots of players get bloodied up from legal hits.

To the refs defense, it looked horrible in real-time and depending on the angle, but replays clearly show that a fine is just garbage.

Hey Drew, its the NFL...hits are supposed to hurt. Try telling your O-line to block better because they're the reason you had a bloody grill.

I think the refs made a call as they saw it on the field. It looks like a bad hit, and if it was only seen from the back or possibly sides, it looked like a hit to the neck. Now, the NFL fining him is fucking stupid. Watching the replay and seeing what actually happened shows clearly it wasn't an illegal hit.

Brees can cry a river and "know it was a penalty". Yeah, I knew it was a penalty as soon as it happened as well; you could clearly tell because a QB that had a large contract got touched by some brigand on the other team.


I wish a player would refuse the fine. If it were me, I'd tell them "Kick me out of the league then. It wasn't a bad hit, and I am not paying for doing what you told me to do."
