What does a root canal count as on my insurance?

I need to know what my insurance covers but the website doesn't lay out the terms too well.

My wife is getting a root canal.

Call the insurance company. There is no way anyone on AT would be able to give you a definitive answer to this, as every insurance company is different. Get the exact ADA procedure code from the dentist, and then give that to the insurance company. They should then be able to tell you exactly how much is covered.
