What does a man's choice of beer say about him?

I find that when people say they don't like beer, it is because they have a dislike for things bitter. Suggesting some chocolate stout or something on the sweeter side is generally the way to go with those types.

I would agree with that. I'm not a fan of anything bitter tasting.

There are so many different varieties, you just need to keep trying different ones until you find one you like. If you never do, then move on to a different drink entirely.

KT

That's basically what I've done, moved on. After almost 30 years of trying some here and there, I've given up.

There is never a time for a few buds. Or Miller Light or any of that other crap pisswater.

And there is never a time for McDonalds, because you eat steak every night. Nor is there ever a time for mass produced TV, only Oscar worthy movies for you! AAA video games from big publishers? Not a chance! Only indie games for you. Music? Ha! If you've heard of them, they are too mainstream to be good.

I swear, beer snobbery is like the socially acceptable form of hipsterism. It is just stupid. Get over it. Some people like Bud Light. You don't? Great. Stfu about it.

You're at someone's house and there's free Bud? It's time for Bud.

I don't eat steak every night but you're right, there is never a time for McDonalds.

It's not like you have to spend a ton of money to get a beer that is a lot better.

I can't drink that stuff no matter how much I try (and believe me I've tried!). I can get about 2/3 of the way through a bottle and just lose interest.
Its not snobbery (I'll happily munch or quaff plenty of cheap crap), it's just that it's so watery and gassy that I find it hard to get down.

All snobbery is repulsive.

Beer snobbery is socially acceptable though. If you were out with friends and was like "oh, no way am I eating that garbage from Buffalo Wild Wings. They aren't real wings!", you'd have no friends. But beer? They all jump on board. "Yeah! Let's go get us some $15 a pint pine tree air freshener... I mean IPA!"

Liking and appreciating different styles of beers isn't beer snobbery. If you think so, then you're every bit as repulsive as the snobs, just at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Define mass produced.

If you are talking about macrolagers I agree they tend to be pretty mediocre, but, some of the so called "micro" breweries have significantly upgraded their production lines, to the point that they are brewing over 100,000 barrels per per year.. (Founders is just one of many examples of this.)

Anything brewed by
1. Anheuser-Busch Inc. - St. Louis, MO
2. MillerCoors - Chicago, IL 0
3. Pabst Brewing - Los Angeles, CA
There are plenty of other bad beers but, none of the offerings by those three are worth drinking unless the local water supply is bad.

The only beer I will drink now is a Trappist Ale from Belgium so I guess that makes me a pretentious snob..?

I just cannot understand this IPA craze.. To me IPA = It's Piss, Asshole.

See this probably does make you a pretentious snob, but we can explore.

Any particular Trappist ale? Does it have to be from Belgium?

but..but..Hipsters drink PBR? :whiste:

Drinking beer tells me that I'm talking to a man who drinks beer.

There are times for hand crafted micro beers. There are times for a 18 year old single malt. There are also times for a cheap ass bottle of rye whiskey and a few buds as a chaser.
Agreed. As much as I love St. Bernardus Abt 12, it's the last thing I want to drink after doing yard work in 100 degree weather.

An ice cold PBR or High Life? You betcha. /palin

I enjoy different beers in different situations. For instance when I was river rafting down the deschutes this summer i was enjoying the hell out of these:

but this Christmas when I was in Canada I couldn't stop drinking these:

And now that I'm home I go with the standard:

Anyone who can only drink some weird ass homebrew/microbrew and thinks stuff like Budweiser "tastes like piss" is a pussy. It's likely they're elitist in food and other things too. Big pussy.

not necessarily.. I've tended to stick with those approved by the ITA..

I'd definitely like to try some from Mariawald and Koningshoeven but for some reason they are impossible to get them in (to?) PA. A few Belgian brews are available here in PA, and for the rest, I have family in Belgium who may or may not be able to smuggle some past the gestapo PLCB from time to time 😉
