What do you usually do with your tax rebate?

How do you usually spend your tax return?

  • I don't usually get a return, usually or always OWE.

  • I save it or use it to pay off bills.

  • I spend it on some toy for myself.

Assuming you usually get one, which of course not everyone does. Smart thing of course is to save it or use it to pay off bills but we all know lots of people spend it on some toy or waste it some other way.

I'm probably going to be getting about 1000 back this year. I might get a laptop for school in Sept with it. The one I have now is basically unusable and a laptop would be very useful for the degree I'm taking (IT).

Save 50% of it every year and blow the rest pretty much throughout the year... or the first few months.. weeks maybe? Been saving 6 years straight now though.
 
Spend it on a toy! I'd like a new whitewater kayak. Plus, I have to purchase a shower, hot water tank, sink/vanity, toilet, and associated plumbing for the "garage." And maybe put some of it toward gutting and renovating our dining room and living room. Crossing my fingers for a big return this year; at least 5k.

I got one last year because I just started full-time and only worked half the year, but I don't expect one this year and don't plan on getting one in the future.
 
I claim two on my paycheck and have no deductions so my tax refund is minor. It's usually less than $1k so it's not even enough to pay attention to. Just a small deposit in my checking account.
 
My wife and I usually have to pay in, we have not gotten a tax rebate worth mentioning in years.

If you work a minimum wage job, and have a bunch of kids, you can get a rebate.
 
If I get one it usually goes in to either a house payment, I try to pay at least one extra payment a year. That or it goes into my Roth IRA which I max out throughout the year anyway.

Been doing that going on ten years now.
