How do you usually spend your tax return?

  • I don't usually get a return, usually or always OWE.

  • I save it or use it to pay off bills.

  • I spend it on some toy for myself.

  • I donate it to charity or buy a gift for someone.

i think of it this way, if say you would take that money and put it into savings account instead of paying it in taxes. they tax your savings account on the return, correct?? so they get you either way

I love the government. They tax it before you get it.
They tax it when you save it.
They tax it when you spend it.
They tax your most expensive purchases for years after you've owned it.

You put this song in my head for the day so it is only fitting I should repay the favor.

Well, they'll stone ya when you're trying to be so good
They'll stone ya just a-like they said they would
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to go home
Then they'll stone ya when you're there all alone

But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

Well, they'll stone ya when you're walkin' 'long the street
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to keep your seat
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' on the floor
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' to the door

But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

They'll stone ya when you're at the breakfast table
They'll stone ya when you are young and able
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to make a buck
They'll stone ya and then they'll say, "Good luck"

Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

Well, they'll stone you and say that it's the end
Then they'll stone you and then they'll come back again
They'll stone you when you're riding in your car
They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar

Yes, but I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

Well, they'll stone you when you walk all alone
They'll stone you when you are walking home
They'll stone you and then say you are brave
They'll stone you when you are set down in your grave

But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

cant wait for my wife to get her W2 in. Had mine the second day of January. I want to file and get all the fat cash!

I dont have a mortgage anymore to deduct, but i do have a third kid now! Looking for at least a couple grand back hopefully. Debating doing it myself or sending it to the guys ive used for the past couple years. But nothing is complicated this year unlike the past couple years. (rented out then sold a house)

I refuse to give the government an interest free loan, so I adjust my # of withholding's appropriately...

this year I will owe just under 200 bucks... nearly spot on (as close as I can be without being under)

I used to have my withholdings set up that way, but then I got a house and the mortgage interest deduction changed my taxes around. I could adjust my withholdings again but interest rates are so laughably low right now that I can't be bothered.

As for what to do with it, into the emergency fund it goes. I might max out my Roth IRA early as well.

If I have a balance on my credit card, I pay it off, and then buy something trivial with what's left. If my balance is bigger than the refund, then I just use 90% of the refund on the balance, and buy something trivial with the rest.

If no balance on the credit card, I will put some extra into my mortgage, and then spend the rest on trivial things... I have also saved it to use towards the down payment on a car before... but, I've gotten my exemptions pretty good now to match my deductions, and so I probably won't see a big refund any more .... probably under $2000 this year ....

Last year I used it to paint the house, which was boring. Hopefully, this year's will be for a trip to Bahamas. May have to be spent on bathroom remodeling, though... That'd be boring 2 years in a row.

Just make the bathroom really awesome ... then it won't be too boring :) like a flat screen TV , hot tub ... and a fancy shower with a million spigots ....

Otherwise ... Bahamas trip sounds fun!
