Me and a couple of guys from the office went to the driving range on our lunch break and they were kind of surprised by how far I can hit the ball. Naturally, they were poking fun at me and calling me Tiger Woods (apparently they were ignoring all my worm burners and sweeping hook shots 😉 ) But the more I got to thinking about it, Tiger Woods' build is almost exactly what mine is like proportionally, slim but strong. And one of my buddies noticed this too since I'm lefty and always facing the opposite of everyone else (plus I had on a red shirt and dark pants today.) He's only one inch taller than me and weighs about 5-7 pounds more than me (he's supposedly around 175, I'm around 168.) We both work out regularly. We're both the same age. Naturally, there's a lot more that goes into hitting the ball long besides strength, a lot of it is flexibility and the length of the club swing (not to mention all the other mechanics.) But there's no doubt his being in shape definitely contributes to the legth of his game.
So then we got to wondering who could bench more (since there's no debating who's the better golfer 😉 ) I'm sure he's stronger, but exactly HOW strong is he? Some searches on Google mostly pulled up forum conversations and said numbers around 300+ lbs. That may be possible, I suppose if it's right at 300. I was thinking more in the 275 ballpark for somebody with our build type. I personally can only do 245, although I haven't maxed in a few months so it might be slightly higher. Just curious. Nef away.
