Did anyone read this before?

"The creators of The Witcher 3: "Will the AMD users to enjoy the" advanced "PhysX-effects depends on the NVIDIA»

"In a recent interview, a leading developer of engine Polish studio CD Projekt RED Balazs Tyuryuk (Balázs Török) said that the new PhysX-effects in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , a bit more realistic hair and fur, are now working on graphics cards AMD Radeon. However, if they appear in the final version of the game, do not know - it all depends on the decision of NVIDIA.

[UPDATE]

Nvidia contacted us about this article. It appears the hair and fur effects are not handled by PhysX. They are handled by DX11 via DirectCompute .

"NVIDIA DISABLES GPU PHYSX WHEN SECOND NON-NVIDIA GPU IS INSTALLED
Nvidia’s new 340.52 drivers (that enable the new SHIELD tablet features) have a feature that disable GPU PhysX in dual-GPU systems that have one non-Nvidia card, according to Nvidia’s own release notes for the drivers in question."

Hm... I tested an 860M and PhysX seems to be working. Per the article you'll need an 800 series card to have PhysX working on modern machines w/ iGPUs. I haven't tested my 700 series to verify but I'm pretty sure not everyone is going to to out and buy the lasteset whenever Nvidia/AMD wants them to.

On a side note Witcher 2 benefits from CPU clock. Witcher 3 should do the same. If you have a 4 GHZ i7 get ready to OC some more.

Just wondering what you guys think. I think it will take more than whats avaiable today for GPUs to run the game smoothly maxed out.

Without a resolution and desired framerate specified, this question is too ambiguous to answer. Even "maxed out" is ambiguous.

PhysX effects have long been capable of running on the CPU for quite some time.. Of course though the CPU isn't powerful enough to do some of the more advanced or particle intensive effects...

That's only 1/2 the story. CPUs are powerful enough to handle PhysX fine. Nvidia has single threaded PhsyX on the CPU resulting in poor performance. PhsyX 3.x fixed that but I don't know if anyone uses the new iteration yet. Witcher 3 might be one of the first users but given Nvidia's recent patch notes and recent revelations it might have problems running on non 800 series cards (it'll probably be fixed quickly if it's a problem though).

The 1st Witcher was PC only and the best game so far IMHO. I am not sure about the second game really but if memory serves it launched on PC and consoles at the same time.

Memory did not serve you well. :p

Witcher 2 came out on PC in May 2011 then a year later was ported to Xbox360 around April 2012. Incidentally, the 360 port was one of the best I've ever seen.

Smooth is not really a matter of opinion but playable is. Maxed out is Maxed out why are you trying to argue so much over something so redundant. Resolution well most of us play at 1080P so that would be a good signifier.

that makes no sense as smooth can most certainly be a matter of opinion.

Well if ones opinion that smooth is 15fps then that is most defiantly untrue.
actually there are some crazy people that will even find 15 fps to feel smooth but the exact framerate was not the point. you said smooth was not an opinion when in fact in CAN be just like a I said.

People used to say Crysis felt smooth at 17fps. Of course people who said this also had a $829 8800 GTX Ultra and probably didn't want to admit their GPU couldn't run Crysis.

strangely Crysis did feel pretty smooth at low framerates. I know 17 fps was not acceptable to me though but around 30-35 fps felt fine.

It's the motion blur that made Crysis feel smooth at relatively low framerates.

Frame rate and smooth fluid animation can and is scientifically quantified whereas opinion are not. http://www.mediacollege.com/video/frame-rate/
lol AGAIN something can feel smooth to someone where it does not to someone else so yes it CAN be an opinion. 60 fps does not feel very smooth if you get used to well over 100 fps on a 120/144 hz screen. someone that has always had crappy systems make think 25-30 fps feels smooth though.

The problem isn't Nvidia is forcing people to use their cards for PhysX. The problem is Nvidia is preventing PhysX on their own cards with drivers from other vendors are installed. This is gotten worse now that people have iGPUs and ones that did work in the past are now disabled by Nvidia.

That's as feeling/opinion not a fact. I could think that cat crap tastes great but that would make me a delusional. Likewise I could think that 13fps is smooth but that would be a delusion on my part.

Again:
The problem is Nvidia is preventing PhysX on their own cards with drivers from other vendors are installed (ie iGPUs + Nvidia dGPU). The article linked is definitely not modern news but times have changed and Nvidia's decisions several years ago is having a negative impact now.
