two years at least. you don't stop being responsible for your actions because you have a tv show or a billion dollars. maybe some of these tools will think twice next time they start doing illegal things.

I don't like Martha Stewart - AT ALL - but I think it's silly she was prosecuted, and it's clearly the case that she is being used as an example. As far as I can see she poses no threat to anyone, and already has a federal criminal conviction. Some combination of fines, community service, and probation is fine by me.

Do you even know what she was convicted of?

i dunno man. what she did is something that every human being would do given the chance. at least that's my opinion. and its done daily by thousands of people daily. in my opinion, she should be fined and put on probation. puttin a 60+ old woman in jail won't change anything as its not attacking the problem itself at all.
also, please don't hate people because they have a tv show or a billion dollars, success is something majority of people cannot have.

They should just give her probation but they won't because it's a federal court and federal sentencing guidelines means she'll probably end up with a year.

She most certainly should have been prosecuted.

She should not serve jailtime though. People have done worse things that were similar and only received ~1 year in prison. Her offense was relatively minor. If she were to be made an example of she would be sentenced to the max jail time.

Insider trading = stealing money != success.

Not to mention covering it up...might as well admit guilt right there.

Oh cmon... given the chance, every single person on earth will use insider trading to their benefit. I agree, its not a good thing and should be illegal but sending people to jail for this is bullsh!t in my opinion, especially for the financial gain that Martha Stewart got. Fining / putting on probation should be the max IMO.

she wasn't prosecuted for the insider trading, she was convicted of four counts of obstructing justice and lying to investigators , they didn't go for the insider trading charges which are harder to prove

And people would rob a bank to if they thought they could get away with it. Maybe we should let all thiefs go because anyone would steal.
