What do you think of the Chevy Equinox?

My dad does a lot of contracting work for GM and he's in the market for a new car. He wants to get a GM vehicle, if for nothing else, just to help out the company a little. He currently drives 2002 a Jeep Liberty, purchased new.

He wants to replace the Jeep because it was nearly totalled in an accident about two weeks after it was driven off the dealer lot (my mom was broadsided by a red-light-runner and it's never driven the same since). So tonight, he asked me what I thought of the Chevy Equinox.

I told him that the only thing I knew about it was that it was built to directly compete with the Liberty, and that it looked nice. I really don't know much more than that.

They'd probably go for an LT model, but my parents HATE leather seats, so they might step down to an LS if the LT only comes with leather. It'll definitely be an AWD model, since my dad will be driving to a GM plant in Flint three days a week this winter.

Other than that, any suggestions?

Uhhh, err check the engine/trans combo - should be Honda if it's V6 stuffage. Also, the Equinox is the Saturn Vue with steel body panels. It's very possibly the best small SUV available to date.

There are many better choices out there both foreign and domestic and limited yourself to only GM is downright ridiculous.

Those things are built about 15 mins from my house (I applied to work there) in a Suzuki plant.... I honestly can't see how it would be a good vehicle long-term just because I don't believe it's actually made by GM.

Although I really don't know.. I'm not a huge fan of them either way.

its a 3400 pushrod v6

anyway, edmunds seems to like it. and don't worry about nfs4, he doesn't like anything that doesn't have a toyota badge on it and a pillow soft dashboard.

Vue Redline = Honda 3.5L V6 (Odyssey, Ridgeline, etc.)

To tell you the truth, I'd pick a Ford Escape over that damn Equinox. Hell, I'd even take the Liberty.

But in this sector, the new Hyundai Santa Fe (not the current fugly one) would rape 'em all. That'd be my choice.
