Drove one before going with an Envoy. The interior is interesting, but it handles like you're driving on a mudpile. You could turn the wheel 1/4 of the way around before the front tires would start to turn. The brakes were awful too...hard stops felt like the rear end was going to flip up in the air. I gave it a
Probably due to the electric steering system. You read the same thing about most of the GM vehicles that use it.

Just in case it hasn't been clarified...the engine is neither a Honda or the ole GM 3400....it's a chinese made engine with a displacement of 3.4L
And the transmission is purchased from Aisin in Japan.

Electric steering? I wonder what the advantage is to using that system? The inside of the Equinox was actually pretty nice- kind of reminded me of styling Nissan would use in an Altima or something. Brushed metal trim, nice large gauges, good sound system. The only problem was my wife's '99 Caravan drove better, and that's pretty sad 🙁

The Equinox is nice. My dad does a lot of work with GM, and all of his contacts there that have demo'd the Equinox have loved it (about 8 people). Nice safety features along with a surprisingly quick engine. I don't think your parents would regret the choice.

It's got the same engine as the Envoy I ended up getting, so it does have some nice power. I just couldn't get past that handling. You know what it feels like? You ever drive a truck with 100K miles on it? The steering gets really worn...that's how the Equinox drives brand new.

Electric steering deos two things. First, they can move the pump somewhere else in the engine bay, it doesn't have to be right off of the engine. Two, it doesn't draw power the way a standard belt-driven pump does, freeing up more fo rthe driver to use.

the electric steering just wont give bump like feedback through the steering wheel when i drove the Cobalt i hated that aspect, its numb, its boring, you cant tell whats going on exactly etc.

subaru is owned partially by GM, get the B9 if you can stand the exterior 😉

😕
the Envoy comes with either a 4.2L I6 or 5.3L V8, the Equinox comes with the 3.4L v6

What did you not understand about getting a GM vehicle?

GM will soon be bought by Toyota... so why not? JUST KIDDING!!
UAW is the very reason why US automakers are having a hard time. Their benefits are friggin ridiculously good.

The Equinox may "look" better than the Liberty... but other than the exterior styling... yeah. Most reviewers like the Liberty and you'll get a better more reliable car.

Buy a Saab if you want to buy GM. And Subaru is much more in cahoots with Ford. GM had a partnership for the Saab 92X, which is a great choice under the current discounts.

what are you talking about Subaru is in cahoots with ford? GM owns 35% of subaru. are you a moron?

check out the H3 however, although it has a less than stellar engine, the interior is supposed to be up there with the liberty and a very good all around vehicle

It got very good reviews for versatility, interior quality (relative to normal GM fair), and looks (although I'm not huge on the looks). The V6 is not the most powerful, but should prove to be adequate, reliable, and get decent gas. I'd say go for it. A pontiac version of it will be coming out in the next year and I think it looks a lot nicer...but that is a personal taste thing.

You are referring to the Torrent, due out 3rd quarter 2005. Buick and Cadillac are also slotted to get one in a few years based on the Theta platform. Saab is going to get a luxury variant as well. This is all a long time in the future, though.

I for one like it, my sister in law just got one a few months back and after driving it for a 6 hour round trip plus driving around the city I drove to for a weekend myself, I was very pleased with it.
