omega has a nice heritage and branding. i would not get a rolex as i think the wearers are poncy f0cks...and the styling is not to my tastes.

I have a small wrist so I stay away from watches with large dials (like breitlings and panerais)
the rattaprante omega is nice, but its twice the price...
The last one is too similar to the TAG that I have right now

I think it looks pretty plain, especially for so much money. I don't think I'd ever pay that much for a watch, but if I did I'd probably buy a Patek Philippe.

actually the picture in the website does not do it justice, the watch has a see thru glass on the back AND the sides to see the movement, which I like

I've seen ones like that and really like them, but the face is too plain. I think Patek are some of the classiest watches around. And like you said, Rolexes....no way.

THAT makes a big difference1 that would look BAD ASS, but it's a bit too plain for me, but i guess your after a dress watch. i prefer chunkier watches as it looks good on my thick wrist. i'm rocking a 60gbp fossil from 2002 ;p. i may treat myself come april bonus time ;D. at least the watch will be something that will be memorable and last along time. technology hardly lasts and is barely memorable and i'll have most of the kit i want anyway.

i like the m1 best out of those 3. the new avenger seawolf is like the m1 but it has stencil numbers, which does look better imo but i can't find a price on it yet ;p

My brother picked up a Seamaster and I think it looks great. However I personally prefer a lot of the vintage Omega watches - one of these days I'll pick myself up one of them.

Am I the only guy on AT who is entirely comfortable wearing a $30 Timex Ironman?

Some people are fine with Hyundai, some get a Maserati.

Different strokes for different folks.

I have a Seamaster that I really like, but the one you linked isn't very attractive, imo. The styling of the more recent Omegas seem to try and push it more into the mainstream; they lack any individuality.

For that same money, I'd probably pick up a nice German like a Dornblueth and Sohn, a NOMOS, or something comparable. The Dornblueth watches are just incredible.

Does an expensive watch really keep time that much better? My dad has a Seiko...he was talking with a friend about how they both lose time and have to keep changing them. Granted, they're not $5000 watches, but they're not 30 bucks, either. I don't have to mess with mine..

Plus, if it gets squashed at work, I'll just buy another one. No tears involved. :p

I'll agree with this. Try Glaschutte.

glashuette is nice. except their nice model (president) cost 20,000$

Glashutte might be out of his price range, but I love the sport evolution.

OP I would look at Zenith if you want a dressier watch. Or Glashuttle, or go to timezone.com and spend some time looking around the forums. Seiko springdrive watches are a nice value.

Does an expensive watch really keep time that much better?

This inevitably comes up in every watch thread.

No, it does not keep better time. No, that's not the point.

The analogy was provided of economy car vs exotic. Just curious to see if it was actually entirely valid, or based on appearance/class only. ;)

The only proper way to receive those watches is to go over there and order in person, and then fly back again to take delivery in-hand.

I gotta do that one of these days.......

Wow, I thought paying $70 for my Fossil was bad. IMO, I'd go with something a little nicer for $5k; I imagined $5k watches looking a little nicer. I'd expect to see that for $200-300 in a department store.

Very nice looking watches, although I think Ebels looks better

is ebels the same level/price as omega?

Can anyone reccomend some other brands? I currently have a TAG heuer, so I don't want to get another TAG (although I like TAGs)

TAG is a step down from Omega/Ebel in my opinion. You should just go to a jeweler and take a look and see what you like.
