I went into his shop one time and he was working on someones 8k Tag and he pointed out the PLASTIC gears in the watch. PLASTIC! And it was NOT a knock-off either. Never buy Tag. :)

For "normal" looking Breitlings, look at something like a SuperOcean. One of my favorite non-mechanical watches is the Aerospace; I have a titanium two-tone with a dark blue face and bracelet. One of the things I like about it is that there's a spring in the clasp that holds the watch in place without being tight and expands / contracts as necessary ... very comfortable.

5k and you're going to get one with a leather band?

How about something 10k+ and a leather band? :)

and countless others. In fact, the more expensive watches tend to a leather band rather than stainless, platinum, titanium, etc.

I actually think leather bands look very classy.

I think the smart move is to buy the watch and get the metal band if it is offered, then buy the leather band as an extra. You get both bands, and in many cases the metal band may have an extra fitting or two near the housing which you may not get if you just initially purchase it with a leather band.

My point is essentially in some cases it is 'easier' and cheaper (way relative at this point) to get the watch with a metal band and buy the leather down the road if you want it instead of the other way around.
