Title says it all. Is Deepak Chopra full of IT plus Shipping and Handling, or does he speak the truth?

Almost nobody here is going to know who he is. This is hardly the place to ask something like this.

Deepak knows his sh!t.

Pretty sure most responses will be that he's FOS but chances are none of them based on reading his books. I haven't either but I know they have been beneficial to many people and that he does seem to know his shit.

(I voted none of the above btw)

I just wanted to get a feel for what the avg ATOTer thinks of him. It's true though most here probably don't know enough about him. I was just flipping thru the channels on TV and saw him and listened for a bit. Then i came on here and did a search to see if anyone talked about him but I found nothing.

Admittedly I don't know much about him either but you can get an idea of what he's about in just a few minutes of listening to what he says, even if it is just a synopsis.

Learn how to manage your weight by using your mind to affect your body. Studies show that every thought has an effect in our bodies, and by the same token every change in our body has an effect on how and what we are thinking. In the first session we will look at our deepest desires and discuss a well-balanced nutritional program for mind, body & spirit. The rest of the week we will work on developing our attitudes to complement our success and learn a new way of thinking, taking us away from past self-criticism and judgment. We will learn that eating less never worked in the past and never will contribute to weight loss management. We will take a look at the reasons we eat (boredom, emotions, habit). The answers will be revealed from deep within.

From his website, on the weight loss mindframe. He is dead on. I know exactly what he is talkign about, from personal experience. Mind plays a much bigger role in weight loss than people think. It's not as simple as reduce crabs, reduce fat go to gym. That is a blueprint, but the drive and motivation comes from the mind, otherwise you lose track quickly.

Learning how to look at yourself, your self esteem and how you control emotions and discipline yourself.

I give him a thumbs up. He is just giving mental guidance and some people need it, others dont.

Although his writings are based on universal truths, therefore are valid in some ways, I think he himself as a guru is not overly convincing.

For one thing, he seems to be materialistic, more caught up in his own persona and selling books then reaching spiritual heights. He also seems to be rehashing eastern spiritual ideas into accessible new age books that appeal to a large hungry western audience. That said, you don't have to be enlightened to write a book that can help others. I think his books have helped people get interested in the path, so overall he is a good person, who has helped others, and made a lot of money while doing so. But there are alot more interesting teachers to read.

Agreed....the stuff he says has been said hundreds of times over by other Eastern thinkers. Nothing new, but nothing fake either. Definitely though, I don't like him for the above stated reasons.

I think his content is okay, though I'm not a raving fan.

But I think it's cool that he's managed to reach so many people with his message, which, though bland, is something I agree with.

The more interesting teachers aren't reaching out to the public the way Chopra is. However once people check out Chopra they may seek out the more interesting teachers. Therefore, he's performing a service.

No, I don't think he's full of animal endproducts.
