what do you think hd 7k series will do for amd

After watching their stock hit a rediculous low today I did the unthinkable and dropped 10g's @ 4.55 a share.

Obviously this is a sizable gamble that could hurt a little bit but hopefully will net huge returns when Bulldozer releases to high acclaim, 7k series mops up the competetion and all the next gen consoles are sporting radeon chips.

Did I make a boo boo. Too much Ganga?

what do you people think is in store for the company?

The near future looks pretty good for AMD. BD is going to be a success on the server front, and 7000 series will be released before gtx600 giving AMD the headstart advantage into the next generation of GPUs.

Then hope that the executives decide to line their pockets and pay out huge dividends with the profits instead of paying off debt. 😉

Hope you didn't drop it all in at one shot. You gotta dollar cost average into a position.

says who?

Amd will be fine , Intel will keep them afloat as will the government.

They will keep hobbling along making little to no money as always.
It's a pretty good bet considering they have working HD 7000 silicon in house and are(were?) trying to push for a 2011 release. nVidia on the other hand has said outright that it's releasing new cards Q1 2012 I believe.

As for Bulldozer, I don't know man but I guess we will find out in a week or so.

CPUs and GPUs are far easier to design than build. It doesn't matter how long AMD or nVIDIA has been "working on" Bulldozer, Radeon 7000, or Geforce 600. When the ball is dropped, it drops at TSMC and GloFo. AMD can be just as ambitious as nvidia architecturally but neither of them are chip makers and neither of them know how fast or how slow the chips can run until it's too late. The tradeoffs of big die/small die strategies illustrate how AMD (or anyone) can benefit from a conservative approach amid poor performance from a foundry partner. The same principle determined why 4770/G210 were the first 40nm parts, and why Clarkdale was the first 32nm part. The first spin has never been a winner so there is no need betting the farm against it. This idea should carry on as midrange (1155) IVB introduces 22nm and midrange GPUs introduce 28nm. Intel's 32nm process is over a year old and yet the large CPUs haven't even come out yet. nvidia could be looking at a similar timeline if they think they are going to be out the gate with their flagship device.

By now we should be seeing some detailed HKMG-related literature from TSMC at least similar-looking to Samsung's 32nm and intel's 22nm voltage vs delay charts from anand's pipeline section. AMD has demoed 28nm mobile parts and yet no one is talking about how (or whether) the power envelope has transformed going to the new node. Either intel is consistently spoiling us with best-in-class manufacturing or TSMC and GloFo need unrealistic funding to keep pace. Regardless, a 4-billion xtor 28nm chip from TSMC is going to be delayed at least as much as the 3-billion xtor 40nm chips were delayed, not only because they are the most difficult to build, but because they were likely never intended to launch first. TSMC's implementation of HKMG will determine whether the wait was worthwhile or not, but it will bode equally well or equally badly for AMD and nvidia.

Did you take your 11% gain out after BD came out? I would have taken 50% out and held onto the rest for a few quarters.

Continue their successful and good-performing GPU lineup, maybe further close the gap on the single-gpu front, while the CPU division keeps releasing turds. 😎

buy low sell high, sounds like youre doing it right

Earlier this year the stock was as high as 9.55. If that happens again I will near double my money. I really think llano is gonna make a killing if they can just get the damn foundries to make the chips. IMO, I think the HD 7K series will put AMD neck and neck with NVIDIA leveling out market share.

Since hd4870, AMD has been on a roll with their graphics cards and I really believe this upcoming one will be epic.

I disagree, AMD is toast but their gpu division will be fine. ARM is coming up hard/fast enough that by the time AMD ends their long/slow decline nobody will care except us GPU enthusiasts. Intel is the natural buyer for their gpu division, and that could garner AMD enough time to find another area in which to compete at least.

And I'd bet that AMD beats NV to the next gen by at least 3 months. JHH is great at letting us know when he's kicking AMD's A$$, and he's been remarkably silent again recently.

Just so you know, AMD's stock was lower on Friday of last week than it was today. Just sayin. 😎

The problem with investing in AMD is a 10 year track record of horrendous performance. Can it go up to $9? Maybe. But in the short-term u can be making a killing investing into good stocks such as Google and Apple. Then if we get a concrete plan out of europe, you may go long with AMD. For now AMD stock is a dog. You are better off investing into Oracle, Adobe, EMC, Google, Apple, Nvidia, Micron, Bidu, etc. Out of all the tech stocks, AMD really is one of the worst both now and historically. Its growth prospects are also poor in the next 2 quarters due to supply constraints. BD being a turd may not even gain them any more market share.

Oct 3, was also the day, Nvidia saw its most recent low. A transaction was made that caught the interest of investors. Nvidia Director's $1.3 Million Buy

One bullish insider at chip maker Nvidia recently threw down some chips of his own and increased his holdings by over 30% after a seven year hiatus from buying on the open market.
From Oct. 3 through 5, director A. Brooke Seawell bought 100,000 shares of Nvidia (ticker: NVDA) for $1,191,000, or $11.91 apiece.
7 days later
Nvidia closed at 15.46

Must be nice to drop 10 grand like that.

I didn't tell the whole story. I actually dropped in the ball park of 25K. Got like 10 shares of Google which was something like $490 a share. Bought @ 50 shares of Mc Donalds, Phillip Morris, Schlumberger, some mutuals..... maybe a couple others. I can't remember. Pretty much when I saw the market crash I splurged.

All in all in about the last 15 days I'm up around $1500.

A lot of people are speculating that the markets have bottomed out.

The problem is, pretty much all of Europe is way over leveraged, and I don't think they can afford to bail each other out.

I hope you guys are right and I hope you make a killing. I just think you've got a lot of guts investing in paper money at this point.
