what do you think hd 7k series will do for amd

After watching their stock hit a rediculous low today I did the unthinkable and dropped 10g's @ 4.55 a share.

Obviously this is a sizable gamble that could hurt a little bit but hopefully will net huge returns when Bulldozer releases to high acclaim, 7k series mops up the competetion and all the next gen consoles are sporting radeon chips.

Did I make a boo boo. Too much Ganga?

what do you people think is in store for the company?

I think whatever happens in Greece and the rest of Europe will have a far bigger impact on AMD's stockprice than the technical competitiveness and launch timelines of their products.

Buying equities right now is more a play on going long in Greek bonds than it is in going long on the specific company shares you are buying.

Well if that's the case might as well go direct and bet on the actual Greek bonds themselves. 1YR bonds are yielding at 165% at the moment. What could possibly go wrong? lol!

I feel like AMD should have tried very hard to launch HD7000 series before the holidays. I am not sure they are going to be able to pull this off in large volumes, if not outright release the series in Q1 2012. A lot of us thought that by the time BF3 ships, we will for "sure" have next generation GPUs.

I hope you guys are right and I hope you make a killing. I just think you've got a lot of guts investing in paper money at this point.

I remember when I still lived in Russia, one day I woke up and my uncle told me the currency lost 3 0s (i.e., 100,000 became worth 100). Haven't personally checked the validity of this but I remember stories of older people around me telling me that last week they could buy a used car, and now that same amount of $ could only buy them a loaf of bread......

I didn't tell the whole story. I actually dropped in the ball park of 25K. Got like 10 shares of Google which was something like $490 a share. Bought @ 50 shares of Mc Donalds, Phillip Morris, Schlumberger, some mutuals..... maybe a couple others. I can't remember. Pretty much when I saw the market crash I splurged.

All in all in about the last 15 days I'm up around $1500.

You must have more cash than AMD.

A lot of people are speculating that the markets have bottomed out.

The problem is, pretty much all of Europe is way over leveraged, and I don't think they can afford to bail each other out.

There is a big difference between eg. the nordic EU countries...and then the countries around the Mediterranean...BIG difference in economics, debt, taxes...and attitude.

I remember when I was 16, gold was $350 an ounce.. today it's $1700.

Thankful for having a wise uncle with some recommendations on how to use a chunk of cash from my relatives. Too bad I didn't have a whole lot more money back then though. :'(

Only Europe?
I can think of a place that is even more leveraged than Europe.

Edit: And while I type this I read "Treasury Secretary Geithner Tells CNBC: US Will Help Europe With Debt Crisis (Story Developing)".

It is really funny.

Well BD was a flop and the 7 series looks like it will be delayed further, so hold on to your stock till Q2 next year.

7 series delayed till Q2/ Q3

Earlier this year the stock was as high as 9.55. If that happens again I will near double my money. I really think llano is gonna make a killing if they can just get the damn foundries to make the chips. IMO, I think the HD 7K series will put AMD neck and neck with NVIDIA leveling out market share.

Since hd4870, AMD has been on a roll with their graphics cards and I really believe this upcoming one will be epic.

You shouldn't invest if you think video cards are going to affect the stock price that much. Not many people buy high end video cards, its not a great money maker.

The near future looks pretty good for AMD. BD is going to be a success on the server front, and 7000 series will be released before gtx600 giving AMD the headstart advantage into the next generation of GPUs.

Proof of this? The power consumption is abysmal.......
