What do you see at your county fair?

I've only been to county fairs in 2 different states, IL and WI. The fairs were very similar with the (usual?) attractions like Livestock, Arts and Crafts barns, Tractor Pulls, Demolition Derbies, and of course the rides and games. I was wondering if fairs across the US are all the same? Do CA fairs have multiple barns filled with Sheep, Pigs, Chickens, Cows....Do fairs around NY have tractor pulls?

I've been to LA County, Orange County, and California State Fair in Sacramento and even though Sacramento is worlds apart from LA/OC it's pretty much the same.

The only fair I've been to is the Minnesota State Fair, and it's pretty good. I go once every 5-8 years. They have all sorts of deep fried food on a stick. I think after the state fair, a county fair would seem underwhelming. The MN fair is a really big deal here.

We have "farmers fairs" here in NJ, which are exactly like what you're describing. Lots of livestock, crafts, tractor pulls, demolition derbies, and some carnival rides. Yeah I just repeated everything you said.

The MN State Fair is one of the biggest if not the biggest fair in the country. My wife and I went a couple times this year. Deep fried everything FTW.

The fairs are somewhat segregated though. Most of the white trash hang around the rides. Rednecks near the animals. Average people spend a little time all over the place.

honestly, the only thing i can remember about state fairs is how many fat people there are. theyre all drinking beer and stuffing their faces with corndogs and pizza. its a disgrace.

I know this is about county fairs, but the oldest State Fair in the country is no more. I can't help but think you'd see some sad people in among the normal happy fair goers.

Man's inhumanity to man, otherwise known as the deep fried twinkie..I ate one, they take a frozen twinkie, shove it on a stick,dip in batter, deep fry, dip in a hot fudge sauce and then a generous pelting with powdered sugar. I've been to State Fairs in half a dozen states, several county fairs, the Spokane Interstate Fair, 8 rodeos, 3 goat ropings, and a donkey show...and I ain't never seen nuthin like this...

With only a few regional differences, every one of them has been the same. Pigs over here, cows over there, goats over yonder, and sheep back there. IMO, you can only see so many of any of them before they all start to look the same. I do enjoy the pie judging contests and some of the other "kitchen craft" judging...Those women are COMPETITIVE about their foodstuffs.

Every few years, we'll go to the county fair and watch the truck/tractor pulls, maybe a concert...(not Marshall Tucker ever again!) or some other event. Here, the big event and the one most difficult to get tickets for, is the demolition derby. I've known several of the guys who do that one...WAHOO!

We have one BBQ stand that hits here every year. It's all the guy does during the summer/fair months...travel and serve BBQ. mmm-mm-mmm-mmmm! It's shore nuff good.

Rodeo, 4H and livestock judge awards, lots of junkfood. Midway games and rides operated by dirty people who looked like they been rounded up from the tweaker side of tent city. Classic rock and country bands and regional bands.

I work the Sportsmans Federation Booth, so I'm at our county fair in CNY every year.

Yes we have the pulling of tractors. I have measured the tractor pull results for both super stock and casual pullers. These are small venues (realllly small) about five years ago one of the SS'ers wheelied up onto the railing separating the grandstand from the crowd.

Disaster narrowly averted.

Washed out bands from the 70's and 80's who have 60+ year old members trying to make a buck with their sorry asses until social security kicks in. :shocked:
The only reasons those songs were any good back then was because everyone was either stoned or on LSD or Mushrooms. :laugh:

Actually, a few are still really good, in all fairness. I just saw Night Ranger 2 weeks ago and they still bring it. Jack Blades has plenty of energy.

Just went to the NYS Fair. The corn-on-the-cob was amazing, huge kernals that effortlessly came off the cob, full of juice, and very sweet. Can't buy corn that good from the supermarket that's for sure. Had the stereotypical fair-games - The one where the you pay 3$ for a dude to guess your birthmonth, you say october, you get a prize; the impossible basketball shoot because the ball is overinflated and the ring is oval instead of circle; shoot the star out with the bb gun, knock all the clocks off of the plate etc...; tons of animals that won prizes for some reason or another; rose show; and the typical fair rides and fried food. Tons of As-seen-on-TV type merchants.
