$20000 in car parts (includes performance, show, maintenance, repair, labor) for a $15000 car 😛

Just curious, how much HP did you get that car to make? I looked all over your link and saw endless mods by no specs.

The topic is oddly worded, but I'm trying to see what people spend a lot of money on when most of the people they know jsut can't understand that type of purpose. Maybe you bought a $10,000 television, or you have special light bulbs in your house that are $20 each, or you paid $5000 for your dog.

If you have something like this post what it is and why it's worth that much to you.

I'll start. I have a $1,500 bicycle. When you really start to take mountain biking seriously, they're like PCs, and you want better performing componenets. My bike is up to about $1500 right now, and the next upgrade will put it around the $2000 mark, when I can afford it. Why do I do it? Because a nice bike is more fun to ride, and less likely to break and cause you to crash.

NICE!!
my MTN bike was $2600
upgrades put it at over 3K
all mt friend think im nuts

My B&W 602 and Cambridge Audio Azul 540A.

My friends do not comprehend that audiophile-ism extends beyond Bose and Sony.

My computer was $2,400 built at the time 2 years ago the best everything you could get basically. Then on top of it I got a 19" LCD for $600, so spending $3 grand for a computer and LCD didn't really make much sense to many of my friends or family.

But I'm still using it today and its still a pretty good computer.

I have about ~$3000 or so in my coffee equipment.
I have probably ~$5000 or so in my astronomy equipment.
I have a few grand in my photography equipment.
Several thousand in my wine/beer brewing equipment.

That's all I can think of right now. It's all relative anyway, right? To a cyclist a $1500 bike is probably on the low end. To anyone in the coffee industry $3k is cheap, and anyone in astronomy would consider $5k on the lower end. Of course, anyone who isn't familiar with these interests immediately thinks I spend far too much money.

I do roast my own, and while I have a coffee plant it's just for novelty purposes. This is what I have in my apartment away from home, but I am putting together a more substantial bar back at home.

Yeah, that is a steal. I spent like $1400 (cnd) for my 19" Diamond Pro 900u in '98.

I would have to say my DVD Collection. I have about 380. All my friends wonder why I buy so many.

Why do you have over $700 worth of DVDs? How many have you watched more than once?

Where can I buy DVD's for $2 each? That's damn cheap!

Spent over $600.00 on multiple blood transfusions for my cat.

His blood was making too many white cells and not enough red. When the drew blood out of him it looked like strawberry soda. They gave him one transfusion of new blood and he got better for a day and then it went white again. They gave him a second, same effect. Brought him home to die, but he didn't. Everyone at work couldn't understand why I spent so much on a pet (I had only had him a couple of years at that point).

People that don't understand why you spend so much on pets, don't view pets as members of the family. I would spend thousands on any of my family's many cats and dogs.

The most expensive thing people don't know why I paid so much for, is my HT. It's very low end, but I have DD/DTS surround (about 300w RMS), 27" tv, xbox/ps2/gcn, Media Center PC and with the various cabling and shelving it probably cost me about $1600

I have a hard time believing that others couldn't understand spending $600 on your cat. It's not exactly uncommon for pets to require such treatments, and I wouldn't hesitate to empty my bank account for my cats.
