What do you know about the people living in Afghanistan?

i know that they're f*cked if they the taliban does not hand over bin laden's head on a silver platter. surrendering his nukes would be nice too.
 
I know the majority of them dont hate america, and can relate to us. I know they are not all terrorist. I know a lot more then some people seeem to know even though i dont know that much.
 
Yea, my sentiments too, if they don't hand over that piece of sh1t they're in for a wild ride. If the Taliban wants to shelter him and the people are willing to support that gov't, let em have it.

Well the problem is less then half support the government...i actuly heard on the news what only 4% like taliban , but i dont know if that is confirmed some how...anyone back that up?
 
My dad travelled through it in his young "hippy days" 😉. That would be about 25 years ago. He doubts much would have changed, especially with the Taliban ruling.
Obviously, this is a generalisation of the majority of people in Afghanistan. The middle to lower classes.
He said that they are simple people and very, very religious. They still live in the middle ages, very primitive.
They can be quite easily manipulated, especially when relating to Muslim.

I know that it is much less than 50%. The Taliban is more or less a dictatorship. The vast majority of Afghani's despise the Taliban. There is an anti-Taliban army with 15,000 troops. They are situated in the south I believe, the last remaining anti-Taliban area.


Correction, the anti-Taliban movement is located in the Panjshi Valley in the North of Afghanistan. This is about 5% of Afghanistan, birthplace of the late General Masood, the anti-Taliban leader, assasinated last week. He will be sorely missed. He would also have been a key asset for the US in the fight against the Taliban.
 
I know they are ***absolutely terrorized*** by the Taliban and have asked for help for years. Too bad most of the world has ignored their pleas.
 
I have a sneaking suspicion that, if Afganistan is housing terrorists (and it seems they are), the destiny of that country is about to change radically.
 
Absolutely nothing. The closest contact I ever had was with Farzan in middle school, he was one of the nicest and brightest kids.

Wish I would have kept in touch but when you're young you think school will never end so you don't think about those things.

That is not Afghan culture. That is the Taliban. We need to recognize that they are not the same thing.
 
The people are impoverished beyond anyone living in a modern country could ever believe (unless you came from a similar country), they are largely unsupportive of the Taliban who has what you would call an oppressive regime, but they are also sick of the all the death and fighting and civil war that has been going on for 30+ years, and are willing to conform to the rigid and repressive Taliban laws and customs if it means some stability and peace. Not a pretty existence, they have been beaten into submission.

This Unclemo has been saying things like "kill them all" for days. I wish everyone can calm down and realize there are also a lot of innocent civilians in Afghanistan that are going to die because of this tragedy. They are also the victims.
 
i hear that the women have to cover their faces with towels or whatever, or they will be shot dead by their own people!. Also men can have multiple wives. I suggests this presents a weekness for the taliban. All we do is send in SEALS discuised as women to infiltrate afgan.
 
I am not for killing ALL of them. That is a misunderstanding. I just don't want to see a war where we lose hundreds of thousands or even thousands of American Troops just to stop something that should not be an issue to begin with. I would rather use force other than troops on foot that are destined to suffer some number of deaths.

Calling me disposable just makes you look as ignorant as my post. We can all use positive discussions to clarify any misunderstandings.

And "I doubt that's what he meant. He's been spouting racist BS all night. " is not true. I have only been pushing that anyone who thinks that we should not bomb em and send in troops instead outa be the first ones willing to die to go in there. that's not being racist.

Come to think of it, I have even stated in some thread that I am against racial profiling... I am not racist toward them.
