75 when I'm at home, off when I'm at work. It get's pretty hot inside, but it cools off quickly enough, and then the power bill kind of balances out.

72 when I sleep, 75 when I'm awake and home, 78 when I'm away.

I grew up in SoCal (San Fernando Valley) without AC. We had a swamp cooler (common in the southwest) but with the rising humidity in the Valley (pools and watered lawns), it was largely useless.

I vowed to never suffer through that again.

When I got my first job, the first thing I bought was a window unit for my bedroom and an agreement with my parents to cover a portion of the power bill. Within a year, my parents had three more window units. They had central AC installed a couple years later.

no central AC.

the only ac in my apartment is a window unit in my bedroom, which I just turn on to "high" whenever I'm about to go to bed.

in the living room / kitchen / computer room, we just have window fans and a couple powerful floor fans in key areas (ie: pointing at the couch and my desk).

The electricity used to bump it down one degree seems hardly worth it, you are one finely attuned person. 😉

70 degrees in the basement (a window unit, used mainly to keep the humidity in check in the summer)
70-72 in the mainfloor of the house (central heat pump) 70 when home, 72 when not.
74 in the bonus room above the garage (zoning is nice!)

Good luck. Zoning a system is not cheap and it takes much more than seperate thermostats. 😉 Flip the fan switch to the "On" position and let it run 24/7. With the fan on, you will get a more even temperature throughout the house. Make sure you check your filter once a month. As for the thermostat, set it and forget it ! When you crank the temp up, every thing in the house will warm up. Then when you crank it down, every thing needs to cool down before the thermostat is happy again. I run mine at 74ºF at all times.

77 or so now that I pay the bills. When I was in college I kept the thermostat as low as it would go, so it was around 65 or so in Philly.

Buying a new house with 1 zone but 2 stories Text I knew I had to zone it. I spent 140 on new 7 day programmable thermostats, 80 on a zone controller, and about 40 on a 12x10 damper. I need to track down another damper (12x8) and then I'll have all the supplies to zone it myself. $300 or so to zone it myself with forced air. I just wish it was easier for people who aren't contractors to get the suppiles.

I went to visit the house today with the temperature around 75 at the time, the first floor was really comfortable, but the upstairs was really hot. I'm glad I spent the money already, even if I haven't moved in yet ;-)

we just got a/c in our server room, keep it at a rather cold 66f

use to be like 90-96 in there 😛
