Well I am getting a Gigabyte board, so I would assume you'd want the two to be of the same brand.
My list of parts I've "finalized" on is up above, but I'll repaste the mobo:
GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Quite a lot less space, though. I've chewed through most of my 250 GB on my laptop, and I hardly have any games on here to begin with!

Would the gains of a 10k RPM drive really help that much in gaming compared to a 7200 RPM drive? I always assumed the real beasting came in the RAM, GPU, and processor and not the HDD itself? Where exactly would the gains go and in what magnitude?
medium: Stepup program? And the AMD 5000 series isn't out yet, otherwise I would probably get the 5870x2 or something.

Wow thanks for the setup there, jae... interesting choice of RAM. I googled OCZ versus Corsair Dominator and they seem to be comparable, but OCZ seems to have the price edge. Curious if there is somehow an inherent performance gain in the Corsairs as a result of the price premium or if it's a function of the brand name. Awesome comboing as well, by the way
Also I wonder if an 80 GB solid state is enough for games, after the OS has taken up its room and everything. If only SSD's were cheaper!
AirCooled: So if a GTX 295 can't utilize dual GPU's, it's like running a 260, which would be slower than a 285? So there IS some sort of inherent risk with a 295 if there are scaling issues?

happy medium: I can wait... it's hard, but I can wait, haha. Would it be cheaper to buy a card and trade it up later or to just buy the card directly later? Is it safe to say that the GT300 will effectively be a scale-fixed GTX 295, and likewise for the 5000 series and the 4870x2?
Are there any benefits to an i5 over i7? I'm willing to pay more for the extra speeds of an i7 unless there are many other benefits to an i5.
