It's like these people don't care about the value of the area/community. I can understand if you have a party or something and don't have the space in your driveway you have your friends park in the yard, but this is practically everyday.

Take for example: You're looking to buy a house in the area (yes, it a very nice/decent area) and you see houses with cars parked on the front lawn when they have ample space in the driveway......... What would you think? WTF? or Cool, I like the touch of red sun faded S10 pickup truck against the green grass? :p

Lunch Break Front Door Service
I actually just got done cutting the grass when I saw this guy pull up to his front door. Thought it was amusing. Must've been his lunch break from work **LOL**

I'm tempted to go over one day and ask if the vehicle/s are for sale

so i'm filthy rich and I drive an old truck.

Nothing at all wrong with that, just keep it off the lawn ;)

Understandable but this is every other day. They have to be Renters and not give a damn. I know the Realtor and will find out.

Not really, lower property values mean you get less money for your house when you do sell it(it's an investment, after all), and such values are more likely to attract lower-income families that you're less likely to be socially compatible with.

the real question is, why do people in these nice houses have such ****** cars? would you be complaining if it was a new G35 in front of their house? make them get new cars!

I demand that you take down the photo's of my house RIGHT NOW. This is no way to treat a neighbor. I was simply washing my car and I get this?

Nah just kidding, my sad excuse at making a joke.

150k-300k is cheap? Pffft. Give me a break. Not everyone lives in New York or Los Angeles, you know.

Even the dog is like, why are you taking the yard away from me?

I forgot to mention they have 3 dogs that run the neighborhood and there's nothing I can do about it. I've always said to my wife that I'd like one to attack me so I can test my new Timberland boots out. There's a leash law, yes.

They must be renters, it's the only thing I can figure!

Looking at this pic, I'd be very curious to know how wide the street is and how wide the driveway is as well. Pics of you holding the tape measure or shens.

Looks pretty damn narrow to me.

Seriously, WhyTF would you park on a lawn if you have a garage, a driveway, or a street? Most people try to take care of their lawns, not use it as an extension of the street.

Answer the question. Why wouldn't you buy a house in an area where people are parking on their lawns?

Maybe Im just a spoiled brat, but to me, it represents trashiness.

Why does it represent trashiness?

The "why" doesn't matter. Perception is a huge factor in property values. If people believe that parking in the lawn is trashy (and most people do, including myself) then it has a negative effect on property values because it will drive away higher-income families from wanting to live there.

Whether you think it is fair or right is completely irrelevant.

It's absolutely brilliant!!! Drive down property values in your neighborhood. Have the house reassessed. Pay lower taxes.. AND, it's still the exact same house you live in.

Yep, and when you try to sell your house in 10-20 years and you get half of what you paid for it, at least you can say you saved money on your property taxes.

I would think, "hey, I could get a great deal on a house in this neighborhood because uptight people won't want to live in a neighborhood where people park on their lawns." And then I'd laugh all the way to the bank because I never look out my front windows.

Looks like it is parked that way so the pickup can get out. Works for me (we do that at my house all the time)

As others have said, there is a perception that comes with people parking on their lawns, which drives away rich people, which hurts the local economy.

Most neighborhoods near me (low $100's to the millions, just north of Houston) seem to have restrictions on such acts. Heck, the community that my parents live in even restricts certain types of plants in the front yards. And it's not even *that* nice of a neighborhood.

Also, there are some VERY nice houses around here with some very worn-down vehicles parked outside, because there are many cases in which the most expensive homes are bought by very large families that have 10+ people paying for a 3-bedroom.

And that is pretty trashy to park on your lawn.

It depends on where you live as to being cheap, however, I agree with your second statement.

It is their property and they can do with it whatever they want (as long as it's in the law). Value of property is relative, anyway. Why should they care how much it drops your property or theirs (assuming they don't plan to move)?

$300k buys you a single-wide 100 miles from the nearest urban center. i would EXPECT there to be cars parked on the "lawn."

to even HAVE a lawn, you'll need to fork out $600K. and yeah, at that price point, you'd still expect to see cars on the lawn. you really need to be looking at $800K+ before you can expect to see car-free lawns.

There used to be this guy on my block who would whip his car up onto the front lawn and jump out like he was a cop responding to a call. He was really living in a fantasy world until the real cops came for him and that was the end of that.

This sort of thing is pretty common in neighborhoods like this. My stepmom (in southern Indiana) lives right across the street from these people who pretty much always have at least 2 cars parked on their lawn. It's because cars count for a lot out there (not like CA, more in a redneck type way) and they have too many to fit in the driveway/garage (looks like one of those houses in your photo has a one-car garage and the other one has no garage at all). I agree that it's an eyesore, but the locals around there don't really seem to care at all. Remember that houses are much cheaper in this kind of area so even people who normally wouldn't have a house if they lived anywhere else do out here.

OK people you can stop telling us how much $300k will get you where you live. The guy lives in TENNESSEE. We can see that $300k will buy a decent house there.
