What do you guys think of starting an Anandtech FTP server? *POLL*

We could set up a site with a bunch of mirrors, perhaps get some type of website to query all servers for data, top 10 videos etc, will host movies, pics, anything legal...


Could be a lot of fun and if ever someone gets bored they could go through the list :)

Anyone up for it?

What are your views?

PM ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Id like at least two people to give me a hand,
experienced, knows php, maybe asp if we take that route..
is knowlegable with databases and the file transfer protocol.

Im not going to do this on my own, ill need help :)

No, but it could not only be one site, but more like an Anandtech FTP community, everyone has their own server, but runs with same settings, passwords etc, and is basically a mirror, we could have one main site as the list to see all the files on each server and stuff

Would be kick ass no?

It would work better if it was sort of a peer-peer for AT people only.. err. people that know the password.

that way there is no bandwidth bill to foot.

I like the idea, but i mean we're talking a lot of bandwidth

Something like that, a website, login, and you have access to all the files, if everyone chips in, we could have some potential here. Would save me on those boring days :) heheh

The problem is it wouldn't stay legal for too long. It might start with a few songs here and there, but then I think it would take a downward spiral.

I mean, what else would you *really* want to share then, that's not easily available on the web?

Secure p2p where you can disallow every IP except the few that you specify whom you connect to and trade things wasn't all that great? Are you kidding me!? :Q

All we need are a few moderators and its all good. Im on the computer almost 24/7 sooo :)

We could have sections for car movies etc, im sure we could keep it legal.

Waste was good but we ended up just having a bunch of people come in, rape our shares, then never log in again.

I don't trust FTP. I've seen too many secure FTP servers borked by script kiddies.

Sounds like the old ftp ring (but that was all warez/games/rips)...what was it called bkn or something lol...is that still around?
