What do you guys think of starting an Anandtech FTP server? *POLL*

How much bandwidth are we talking for each individual? I have a few gigs a month that I could spare, but it would have to stay legal, or I'm out.

I have no idea. Depends on how many users we get using this.

I have unlimited upload, but only @ 80 kb/s 🙁

So I would have to limit the users on my account
 
I have a 100mbit BT (Bittorrent) server that autoseeds its content. If someone can provide content that is legal, then I can provide the server.
 
or wait! How about a site that just lists ANANDTECH ftps, only people from anand can get it, and they can put their ftp in and the files get listed directly?

That would be cool...

One person makes the script for the ftp, another for the site, another the web layout, another for the photoshopping, we could make something pretty decent IMO...

I once made a GEOCITIES site, you could sign up and host your own site, it made an ftp account and everything. I learnt PHP for the purpose of that site only! Took me about a month when I didnt know the language

Awesome idea, but my university's firewall is rough, so I couldn't contribute much...other than content :evil: Actually, who knows if I could even get in.

what exactly is the content supposed to be? flash videos? stolen jokes? Im trying to figure out what it is that is worth sharing. Im not dumping on the idea. I think it could be a great idea but it seems to me that in order for it to be successful the content would have to be somewhat illegal.

Im not into p2p programs, to much trouble, never get good speeds, always problems locating files, I just dont like the idea as much...

Just movies, and anything else legal.

I was inspired by the "waste my bandwidth" thread. He had all the movies on a website, and it sucked, if it would have been an ftp would have been much more fun 🙂

Basically an ftp for those type of things

Or like when the NFSUG2 demo came out, I couldnt get it knowwhere! was getting it at like 2 kb/s.

We could use it as a mirror for those type of things?

I dont know.... I like the ftp listing idea 🙂
 
I can contribute most of my 200k/s pipeline that would be throttled during certain times of the day.

Wish I could help on the php, but i'm currently endulging myself in C#
