What do you guys think of Bobby Jindal?

Because the best way to gauge the overall impressions of a specific politician throughout the entirety of America is to immediately dismiss half of the population from even participating in the poll.

Pretty much this. My impression of him is one of wonder that governors too can vote "present". Unfortunately, no state has a bunch of other governors to actually do anything useful while he votes "present".

Hey, at least Loiusiana ought to be spotless after having such a long vacuum in leadership. Methinks for their next governor they should import Hailey Barbor.

If you're looking for any sort of 'real' answer to your question you should ignore all responses by Dems/proggies/liberals. They hate anyone who isn't one of their own and ascribe all sorts of negative attributes even if there's no basis for doing so.

For others, most of us don't live in LA and therefore aren't terribly familiar with Jindal. Moreover, the Republican field is so crowded right now many of the candidates, Jindal included, get overlooked. The rest of country isn't going to learn much about Jindal (or some others) unless and until the field is substantially narrowed.

Right now there seems to be about only two ways to get any attention as a Repub candidate:

1. Be named Trump, or

2. Attack the candidate named Trump

Neither of the above two really tell us anything about the candidates (unless you're named Trump).

By the way, it was rumored that Jindal lost one of his big shiny clown shoes when Rick Perry got a grip on it as he was bailing out of the back of that little red wagon. 😉

Jindal, like many/most of the Republican pols with national ambitions has correctly assessed what his party is and panders as needed. With a slate of candidates larger than a Duggar family there was bound to be many that get almost no support and Jindal has not much to distinguish him from the other pandering r-pols.

In all due fairness he was 10 times the leader after Katrina then the governor who actually governed during Katrina and the immediate aftermath. He also handled the next hurricane threats much better.

Okay, I realize that he doesn't really stand a chance in the Presidential election. However, I'm curious as to what the general American's perception of him is.

About a month ago, he annoyed a lot of Indians by stating that India was desperate for USA's leadership.

His other comment, saying that he came to the US to become American, not Indian-American, drew equal amounts of jeers and anger. Here's an opinion piece that argues why he's wrong.

So my question to you guys, how exactly is Bobby Jindal viewed as by most Americans. Did anyone actually take him seriously when he declared he was gonna run for President?

Indians certainly seem to think so. Personally I'm not sure if it's a full blown Uncle Tom scenario, or if the guy just has a self-esteem/image complex, but there is definitely something off about how he seems to view himself. And for the record, I think that's a shame. Hailing from one of the world's oldest cradles of civilization is something to be proud of in my eyes, as is a successful public service career in an area noted for not always giving those with extra melatonin a fair chance.

Regardless, the point was he is clearly not the unknown mystery character people like TheGardener would prefer him to be.

Katrina happened in '05. Jindal wasn't Governor until '08; so it's not surprising you don't remember him doing much. How could he?

I don't think Louisiana had really done much to recover and rebuild by 2008, had they? I was down there somewhere around that time and I remember a local talk radio station with the woman lauding Haley Barbor and saying that Mississippi came up with a plan and executed it, whereas years later Louisiana was still discussing maybe coming up with a plan. That might have still been under Blanco, but her gist was that the Mississippi towns had been largely rebuilt whereas Louisiana, hit much more lightly, had hardly begun to recover and still had hundreds of condemned houses.

If I recall correctly, wasn't there some sort of "secret" plan by the powers that be in that state to convert a large section of the hardest hit areas where many lower middle class and poor folks lived into much more expensive and desirable real estate that only the very well-to-do could afford? And that the big holdup in rebuilding and flood-proofing those areas was because of those power brokers having problems pursuing this agenda?

Jindal's record on economic growth is mixed. It was above average the first couple years of his governorship and has been below average since 2010.

He has also passed large tax cuts that have helped create massive budget deficits that have required one time budget gimmicks that can't be repeated, which is likely to cause issues for future growth in Louisiana after he leaves the state house. Combined with the low price of oil and gas, I would imagine that Louisiana will continue to have subpar growth for the next several years.

Jindal, despite being an Ivy League educated biologist signed a bill that allows creationism to be taught in schools.

My impression of him has been bad ever since he gave the official republican response to one of Obama's SOU addresses. He came across as weak and feckless, even as a wuss. This is more of a personality thing than anything to do with substance, but I guaranty he lacks the charisma to get anywhere in the primaries.

That has to go down in history as one of the worst political speeches of all time. I knew nothing of the man but came away from that thinking he had some sort of mental retardation issue. I'm not joking.

I know I'm taking you too literally here, but I'm going to take issue with this as a person of Middle Eastern descent who was regularly accused of being/acting too white.

Skin is just a colour. There should be no pressure on him to exude Indian character traits of any kind, hold India in any special place in his heart, and so on. He was born and raised in the U.S. and can and should be considered as American and not-anything-else as any other dude who's lived his entire life in Louisiana. He is entirely within his rights to consider himself American and not Something-American.
