What do you guys do with your old video cards?

It seems like you have to upgrade video cards every few years (maybe even 2 years?) and drop at least $200 for a decent card that's up to date.

What do you guys do with old video cards you bought a few years ago?

I put my old 6600gt in my little sister's pc so she can play Sims 2. I'll probably throw in my 7800gt in there the next time I upgrade and keep the 6600gt as a back up vid card. Don't think I can get much for either at this point so I might as well keep them.

I usually upgrade twice a year and sell my other card. I always buy mid-range. Of course if you wait 2 years to upgrade your old card wouldn't likely be worth enough to sell.

I'd put it back in an old system, but no one uses said system and I'm just too lazy. Now, it's sitting back in the box it came in.

...i eat them with some fava beans and a nice chianti...

actually, with at least 4 pc's running at any time i just keep handing them down... by the time they are pushed out the end of the pipe they are so old they're not much use... they go in the drawer in case some thing dies and i need an emergency backup... although i always will keep my trusty pci trio64 for troubleshooting...

I've never changed a card yet - always upgraded the whole thing, so it's kept with the PC it started in.

I use the trickle down until it finally ends up in my parts inventory. I still have a few ISA video cards. They actually helped me out of a jam years ago on a combination ISA/PCI/AGP board.

I still have the least expensive one in stock (ATI x300SE) just in case the current ones go belly-up or for the waiting between RMA/TRADE/UPGRADE.

I trickle them down usually, to my wife's PC. I've tightened my junk up so I only have my machine, her machine and a file server. I sell them sometimes too. Probably gonna sell my x1900xt once my 8800gts arrives.

Some I sell, some I use in other machines and the rest are in one of my big ole drawers of computer parts.

If they don't die, I usually pass them down or put them in an older PC. I can't even remember who I gave some of my older cards to (Voodoo2, Voodoo3, Radeon LE, Voodoo5, Matrox G400, GF3, GF4 etc.). 9700pro still sitting here in my room with a dead fan and 6800GS is in my P4 rig. With SLI/CF though, I'll start looking into doubling up more instead of replacing.

"What do you guys do with your old video cards?"

I cry a little everytime I look at them and think about how much I spent on them.
A 32mb Radeon1 that I traded a 32mb Geforce1 DDR that cost me $215, a Radeon 64mb 7500 that I paid $115 for an 8500 that I bought for $50 which was not as bad as the 2 8500's that I modded and that died at about $125ea when 8500's pretty much ruled and tossed in the trash. Lost a 6800Ultra last year that was fried by an epox 8RDA with bad capacitors $352 for that one, but I sold it as dead on ebay for $80, an M3D Matrox add-on card for about $100 that JDavies the troll ultimate got in a trade and I never got traded items. Umm...a 4mb add-on ram pack for $65 that I put on a Matrox Mystique 4mb card that came in my Quantex 133MHz back in '96? I did sell that for $40 in '98 or so, and of course there are others like 9500, 9700pros, 9800's, TNT1, SDR & DDR Geforce's, ect, and as I fight to see thru the tears...I find I just cant possibly go on anymore.

I upgrade every 6-12months, buy at the higher end (e.g. 7800GT, then X1900XT), and sell the old card to help recover part of the upgrade cost. Might keep the X1900XT for awhile though because it is BIOS flashed to an X1900XTX, there aren't any games that really bring it to it's knees yet, and I have two sons now that pretty much monopolize what little free time I have anymore.

I did have to shed a tear for what I paid for a Gainward GF3 64MB from Newegg.com a few years ago myself. Of course, I finally just threw away an ASUS P2B motherboard and a PII 400Mhz CPU recently that I purchased for my 1st self-built computer. Both are now relatively worthless and I paid nearly $500 for them back in the day.

exactly why I keep it under $200 on my video card purchases. Then I upgrade about 8 months later to the newest mid range $200 card and sell my old one off for $80-100.

They get put in the backup rig, then after the next upgrade, either sold or boxed. I have VidCards dating back to the Voodoo2 1000 and older.

I throw them in the garage or in an old rig. Never know when the urge to play old games will kick in :)

I don't throw anything away. Probably a bad habit. Still have Rage era chips (my first PC, before that they were all macs)

EDIT:
4mb add-on ram pack

RAM as in system RAM or VRAM? Never heard of upgradable VRAM before
