What do you do during a long flight?

Sky Mall, airline magazine....rustle about uncomfortably, several lavatory pit stops and few minutes of sleep. All this on a 14+ hr flight, the joy.

Pffft. Just re-read you talking about a 3 hour flight. That's not very long. Hardly time to watch one movie. 6-14 hours is long. 3 is a hop.

On most DECENT airlines (United, Continental, Air Canada, etc) the in-flight entertainment was more than enough to keep me busy. Little Space Invaders knock off built into the seatback, 4-5 different movies, some awesome retro cartoon playing, like Looney Tunes or Tom & Jerry, and I remember when I used to fly to Tel Aviv with Continental they had a channel that was allllllll CSI, like 8 episodes that looped. Well, now flying to Amman with *shudder* Royal Jordanian, you're lucky if you can actually SEE the fvcking movie (the entire coach cabin has a PROJECTOR playing the movie for them), and I keep myself busy with my Shure E2Cs and either my iPod, DS, or laptop on the other end.
Talking to the people next to you can be pretty entertaining too, last year I was sitting next to, *fanfare*, a U2 fan, a hot U2 fan, probably said so because of the U2 iPod I had. This year was slightly more entertaining, I got to sit next to one kickass drunk. He kept mumbling to himself about crying children, complimenting the hawt Asian flight attendant, and asking me what I thought about things in the paper.
If all else fails, just sleep.

EDIT: Damn Brits, I actually typed stewardess

Thanks a lot, huey1124
Yeah, anything over 5 hours is REAL bad for me ;( even 5 hours is pretty sucky sometimes.
Btw, saw this info somewhere that said if you have a motion sickness reading is strongly NOT recommended, because your inner ear senses the changes in altitude, but your eyes do not, thus it sends conflicting signals to the brain. But the more people fly, better they get used to it.

Thanks guys for help.

Whoa, I just got Deja Vu reading this thread....

Seems like all this has been posted before?? Or am I just really tired?

3 hours is nothing, i could kill that really quickly playing strategy rpgs on the gameboy advance (Shining Force and Fire Emblem are addicting), or with a portable dvd player (they can be found for sub $100 at best buy nowadays), or by listening to mp3s. These are the things I do going from america to asia

Actually, 3 hours is long for me, too. Lately, I've been flying from Florida to the Midwest. The flights are at least 5 hours or so. Soon, I will be going to Seattle and on my flight schedule it shows that it is about 8 to 9 hours. That is really long for me. I've also been on 14+ hour flights. I would agree that Cathay is a good airline, but unfortunately, I ended up sitting in the economy seats.

Piss off TSA agents with batteries that look like bombs. In Phoenix.

One time I had a data logger that had all sorts of wires connected to it. I didn't want to check it in because I was told that it was a really, really expensive device, so I had to carry it with me. It was amusing to see the look on the TSA agents faces when it passed through the x-ray. I could tell that it made their day.

I've been on multiple 12+ hr long trips to China. I usually listen to MP3's while reading my own magazines or the ones in the seatback. Then when there's a decent movie on, I'll watch it. When I'm not doing that, I sleep.

Last flight I had was 18 hours with a 1 hour layover in Ireland. I stayed up the entire night before, and slept the entire 9 hours of the first leg. Woke up and had a few beers, got back on and slept 8 hours of the remining 9 hour leg.

everytime i go on the plane, i pull an all-nighter to ensure i am able to sleep for endless hours. 😀

but if i go on a short distance flights then i'll just read books. i don't even own a laptop. 🙁

I'll be flying trans-atlantic end of July. My Zen Vision :M and my PSP will be stocked, and charged. I may even get a spare battery for the PSP.

I can never sleep on a airplance but nodd off a few moments. I normally buy a interesting book before boarding and read at the back of the airplane if there is no excessive turburlance.
