Just kind of curious to see what the traders think is good. I know I'm new and I'm just starting out.

Sir Edward Teach was known to carry six revolvers with him at all times. I think he was packing some good heat.

I follow the rule that if you have less heat then me you will be shipping first. If we have an equal amount cross shipping works. If you have more than myself I ship first. I believe that is the common pratice in ATFS/FT.

Heh, I've been doing this wrong then. Granted, I've only been buying piddly things (A CD here or there, a processor, so on), but I always pay as soon as they say it's mine.

These are assuming all positive, it only takes 1 unexplained negative to worry me a bit.

1-10, I will be wary

11-30, Pretty safe depending on the price of the item

31-70, You have really made an effort to make all your trades work out.

71-125, Good Trader

125-200, Great Trader

200+ You are a FS/FT Guru

500+ Wow, just wow.

As for me, I consider this on a case by case basis. If the item isn't worth much I'm less wary and I'll cross ship with another trader who has low ( < 10 ) evals. If the item is costly, the trader will have to pay first (or ship first if I'm buying) unless he/she has about as many evals as I do. If someone has more evals than I do, I'll ask for a cross ship but will gladly ship/pay first if deemed necessary.

Agree on case by case. 30+ I feel pretty good about it, if the Heat is over a long time. 30+ Heat in a few weeks on small items I worry about.

to follow up on this question, i've never done heat, and i don't know if i will. but in the event that i do, i have a good ebay rating both as a seller and a buyer (184, 302 positives -- many repeat buyers). does that have an effect on anything?

i definitely consider the way a seller/buyer approaches the deal. dealing with experienced sellers is a plus when buying or selling things of greater value. just make sure to always cover your bases (proper shipping/correct item shipped, etc)

Typically not, although if you were able to verify the account I might take it into consideration.

For me personally the time span documented via Heat is important too. I have "only" 75 or so evals, but they're spread out over roughly 5 years. I like to see long timespans from people I deal with.

many traders say ebay wont cut it. myself, if i can verify the person through email and get all their personal info, such as a phone number that checks out, i usually go with it. as long as it "feels ok".

tami, traditionally FS/FT traders typically pay no mind to ebay evals. Beerology is about the only other eval system that bears any weight IMHO.

i prolly have like 8 heat, but they are spread out over like 4 years.

some of the ppl ive dealt with are well established, and this current deal should give me some more respect, still not sure how we are going to completely deal with it though.

(fedex lost package, etc, i was shipper)

At some point that becomes rather pointless.

If someone has very few evals I might ask that they ship first, but any decently established trader I'll happily cross ship with. It's somewhat rare that I run into traders with more heat than me, but when I do I sure as hell wouldn't ship first. Common courtesy I think if both traders are established cross shipping (or payment on agreement) is the norm.

If you insisted on it I'd politely tell you to kiss my ass.

If they have more than 20 positive heat evaluations I will cross-ship. What I hate is with how much heat I have now, more than 20 evals, numerous 50+ heat people ask me to ship first, it's like a slap in the face. I tell them to get lost.

at least 20 i would say.

a big plus to people that have had a history (over 3 years), and people who deal with high ticket items.

Umm...NO.
So you're saying if I have 50 and you have 100, you're going to make me ship first ??
Absolutely not.

Once you have 50, you're pretty much considered an established trader.
If you have over 200 and you're still asking for Heat, its all ego and bragging rights.
